Godmother and christening outfit - WWYD?
So we scheduled DS's baptism, it's in about 2 months. In our circle, the Godmother gets the baby his/her outfit (not sure if this is the norm with others).
The godmother is my BFF and we've been talking about the baptism a bit. I definitely want to choose DS's outfit because there are just certain things I do not like with Christening outfits. I would definitely not mind her input as we tend to have sort of similar taste.
Here's my issue: I'm not exactly sure she knows to get DS's outfit, or she knows but hasn't mentioned it. (I did get her DS's outfit for his blessing as his godmother). I wanted to get the outfit soon to have his picture taken and to just check that off the list. Would it be totally wrong if I sent her a message saying something like:
"Hey I wasn't sure if you wanted to help pick out DS's baptism outfit or if you just want me to choose it and let you know where to get it. What did you have in mind?"
Is that appropriate? I don't like the "let you know where to get it". We are BFF's, but I always feel awkward talking about $ stuff with anyone.

she may not know. In my family the godmother doesn't buy the outfit, so it's different from family to family. I would just discuss things with her in person or on the phone.
My parents got my nephews outfit and then Joey wore that one too. The godmothers in my family get the cross, godfathers a nice gift, whether is be a beautiful bible or a savings bond.

We did the same thing...my sister(godmother) bought the outfit and dressed DS. I had no say in the outfit.
I think what you wrote will be fine.

I would discuss in person.
I ended up getting the outfit b/c I wanted to and the godmother paid for a lot of the food for the party. ask what she was planning on doing.

If you are uncomfortable with the money thing, then maybe say something like, does Aug 10th work for you to go get DS's outfit? I saw one I liked at XXX - maybe we can check it out together? if she offers to pay fine, if not, you pay. In the grand scheme of things, is the $50-100 for the outfit worth the strain on the friendship?

hmm, yeah def a tough one. but since you bought your bff's baby's christening outfit, she will prob want to reciprocate . i would def say something like whatyou wrote or maybe say "hey not sure if you had in mind to buy Henry's christening outfit or not.. i was thinking of taking pics soon, do you want to go shopping together or shall i just pick it up myself..i?" something to that effect.

No, definitely not. I definitely don't want to just assume she will be buying it, but I also don't want to get it myself in case she was planning on buying it.

This sounds good I think. We're really chill about things, I just always feel weird bringing up $ stuff with anyone. I definitely don't think she'll be paying for anything for the party - in our circle I don't think the godparents do that, so this is the only thing I think she would get and I don't want to take that from her if she wants to, but I don't want to just assume either.

Same here Actually, when I was my niece's Godmother, I was able to pick out the outfit and buy it, but my SIL said she deferred to my taste so it was cool. With my Godson, my BFF and I looked at a few options online and once she settled on one, I ordered it for him.

I personally don't think you should bring up the money at all. Why not just invite her to go look at outfits together and if she has the intention of paying, it's more likely than not that she would make mention of it during your shopping trip.

I thought of this, but the problem is that she's a doctor and we don't have off on the same days so it's really hard to get together. If I choose it online I could always email her some options and get her input, I guess she would offer if I decided on one online if she wanted to get it. Not sure though about getting it in person (I think I'd like to see it in person).

Re: Godmother and christening outfit - WWYD?
Oh goodness don't even get me started about the outfit My SIL is trying to take over our Christening! We are trying to keep it ultra-simple but she doesn't get the message. She already bought a bib, blanket, socks and shoes without consulting me at all.
She has been sending me websites to pick an outfit and I finally e-mailed her saying that DH and I would like to go see some in person and we would let her know what sort of outfit we would like. To be honest I haven't researched it at all and I am in no rush to do so (ours is also in 2 months time).
That being said I would save yourself the trouble and just let her know that you will be taking care of the outfit. I wouldn't even bother talking $ and just go ahead and buy what you like yourself. I am sure she will understand (though I am not sure my SIL will!! ).

my sister and i went together to get DS' outfit - maybe ask her if she's ready to go shopping for the outfit, she should get the hint.
