Manhasset is very good too.
I'd just like to add something, and I'm sure this happens everywhere, but DH has a ton of teachers in his family so I hear about it frequently. Many of them work in HS's in the towns mentioned and in a lot of these high-profile districts, students are given grades they did NOT earn b/c the parents complain and get them changed. If the teacher doesn't comply, they're reprimanded by the administration, so for the sake of keeping their job they listen.
In a lot of these areas, there are people with a ton of pull and power. I just know that as a student I'd feel very discouraged if I was working my rear off to earn an A, and the same A was given to some slacker after a phone call from Dad.
I work in one of the school districts mentioned, and I can say that what your'e talking about is the exception more than the rule. I have been asked/pressured to change grades by parents, but have always had the support of my administration when it came to the ultimate decision.

I am in Westbury but East Meadow schools. (salisbury) The only thing I am not happy about with the area is that we do not have full-day kindergarten.

I also want to add that this happens in almost EVERY SCHOOL district! I've been teaching for a long time and I have friends in many different school districts in long island and westchester and at one time or another each of this has heard of this happening in our district. It is the exception rather than the rule, but it certainly isn't limited to the school districts named in this thread.

Posted by dazies827 Just make sure if you look in Lynbrook you get Lynbrook SD not Malverne
Was just going to say just that. DH and I are moving to Lynbrook and some of the places we looked at are the MALVERNE school district (which I was told was one of the WORST!). Thankfully we got a great apartment in the LYNBROOK school district- the elementary school is not far from where we'll be too!

there's truth to all of this. i work in a more low-profile district where the parents tend to be supportive and easy to collaborate with, but even we have our nutballs. right now we have a gaggle of sue-happy parents who whipped themselves into a frenzy over something ridiculous. if i told you the situation, you'd think their behavior was shameful. this happens everywhere.
on the other hand, in those super high-profile districts, competition is FIERCE because it's not just about grades but about who's getting into the top ten and the spot @ yale. the difference in GPAs is usually down to a marginal double-digit decimal point. the parents get crazy because they want to fight for their kid's future, so they will argue about the 97% on that term paper until they get what they want. if one parent succeeds, they tell the others, and it becomes part of the culture. i think that's why it happens in some places more than others.

Didn't RVC just win some award for being the best in the state?
South Side High School (RVC) got the highest rating, on Long Island, from US New and World Reports. It was number 46 nationally, Jericho was rated 48 and Great Neck South was rated 61. In Suffolk county the only school that made the list was Cold Spring Harbor at 85. The highest rating in NY, Number 6 nationally, went to Newcomers High School in Long Island City.
ETA: Herricks High School and The Wheatley School got Silver Status and Manhasset got an honorable mention.

I live in Westbury and am on the border line of Carle Place.
Bec the schools are just so-so in Westbury and they are the best in Carle Place, my dream move would be to move my house (which love more than anything) 4 doors down to the Carle Place district...
But if I cannot find a home in Carle Place, where are the good/best school districts in Nassau????
I also considered moving to Floral Park - the west end section - I love that little area..
Taking all & any suggestions with a good school district rep!
My 3 yr old DD is starting St. Aidan's (Williston Park) Nursery Program and have two years until she is in kindergarten and am ready to send her to Catholic grammar school if I have to, but looking for other options!
Thanks so much!
i am lucky enough to live in the west end- come move by me- there are a few houses for sale over here
