Got my Salvation Army Angel today...
he's 4 and he needs socks, underwear, a coat and pj's. It breaks my heart that he needs these things. The only toy asked for was Little People stuff.
I have to say, of all the people on the list I have to shop for, I CAN'T WAIT to go buy the gifts for this little boy, and there will be other toys even though he didnt' ask for them.

I agree with you...i'm most looking forward to shopping for my angel! I have a 3 year old boy 
ETA: my angel is directly through the salvation army in the county I live in...my company arranged it for us so my angel is close by to where I live.

I try to do things for friends in need.
I have a friend in Minnesota. She and her husband decided they wont have X-mas this year (NO presants at all) because they just had to get one of the kids special orthodics.
I sent her a gift card for Wal-mart so she have presants for the kids.
Its so sad that so many people need socks and underware........so so sad.

I just did it online too... 4 month old and the wish list was for diapers and wipes  I bought the HUGE boxes from BRU, some clothes, toys and a gift card...

Here's the main page. Click on frequently asked questions.
Everyone has until December 10th to adopt an Angel and December 14th to send items. It seems pretty straight forward, you can even order the items online and have them sent directly to the salvation army/angel.
OP: thanks for mentioning this, I had no idea about it. I just picked my Angel and e-mailed others about it too!

We adopted a family. I should get our assignment tomorrow. I can't wait to buy for them and to take DD with me to try to help her understand all we have to be thankful for.

I didn't do it through the jcp website because I wanted to help children in our area. I went through a friend who is a volunteer for the Salvation Army and she has a list of children in Nassau & Suffolk.

I picked a senior for my angel and sent a 66 year old man a new sweatshirt.

This is wonderful. There are so many seniors struggling and they are on limited incomes that aren't enough to live on. The basic necessities like clothes and food are even hard. Some have to choose between food and medicine.

I got mine yesterday too and it broke my heart. I have an 8 year old and she did ask for a couple of board games, but she also asked for pajamas, a dress, a sweater and pants. It breaks my heart.

ok...last night DH and I did this..I picked a 68 year old man..he needed diabetic socks and towels, I burst into tears..socks! He wanted a sweatshirt too..he got everything. It was just heart breaking.
