Re: Growing up did your parents......
Growing up no, not at all.
Now my Mom says it all the time, but this is a recent development, within the last 5 years or so.

Re: Growing up did your parents......
Im not in norm. My family does not, has not ever (mom and dad) told me they loved me. Not verbally, not in a card.
I know they do "love" me but its something in them they dont do. Not affectionate either.
Thats why I tell my DD all the time that I love her and will continue to! My inlaws tell me they love me.

Re: Growing up did your parents......
nope, my mom was more affectionate, but my dad never, ever told us he loved us, until he was in the hospital dying from Leukemia.
I never really said it to them either, until my Dad was dying. I guess now we know that Dad loves us and vice versa. Everytime he said it to me i would bawl like a baby because i never heard it, ever. My dad died 3 months ago.
I do say it to my DD all the time!!!! I want her to know how much mommy loves her.

Re: Growing up did your parents......
never, and it really bothers me. DH and I always say I love you and we make sure we tell DS it all the time. The reason is because I don't want him to feel uncomfortable expressing how he feels. For me it was always very awkward telling people I love them because we just never did. I don't want DS to feel the same way.

Did and still do....
Same here. Every night I talk to my mom and before she hangs up we say it to each other. She also adds "Give Bryan tons and tons of kisses and love from Nanny & Pa".

Re: Growing up did your parents......
My mom yes, ALWAYS until this very day. My dad no but his family never grew up that way. I always felt just as much love from my dad. He didn't need to say it. I always knew.

Re: Growing up did your parents......
No, I hardly ever remember them saying it to me. I hate that we aren't so close. I can't ever imagine not saying I Love You to my DD even when they are older.
I think thats great that a lot of you are so close and affectionate with ur families growing up. I feel thats so positive and children and adults need to hear that. Thats definitely the way my DH and I are going to raise ours.

Re: Growing up did your parents......
My family says it all the time--sometimes more than once before leaving or hanging up the phone.
DH family--never. He does find it uncomfortable when my mom says it to him. He sometimes says it back and sometimes says nothing.

Re: Growing up did your parents......
I sure do - at least my mom. I don't think I really "say" it to my dad but it's there!! I am super close to my family!

Re: Growing up did your parents......
My family never did growing up. Now it happens occasionally. All of DH's family are extremely affectionate, even the extended family.

Re: Growing up did your parents......
My mom always tells me that she loves me before hanging up the phone- even to this day. DH and I do the same thing- DH thought it was a little weird at first, but now it's second nature. I already do the same thing with DS even if he can't talk yet

Re: Growing up did your parents......
I did not grow up in an "affectionate" home. On occassion my mom told me she loved me, but never my father. As a parent I want my kids to grow up in an affectionate home, so I tell my kids several times a day and will always. I also find myself telling my mom more now too.

Re: Growing up did your parents......
DITTO!!! I have to remind DH to tell his family he loves them when he sees them -- my family is super affectionate and his NEVER say they love each other or hug or anything.... I think it's weird.
