With the HE washers, it is recommended that you use the HE detergent. I think the regular ones can leave a buildup or something (I'm really not sure). Over time, they can shorten the life of your washer.
I would bring the other detergent back to the store and just ask if you can exchange them for HE.

Re: H E laundry detergent??
It says right on the bottles of detergent if it's made for HE washers etc.
I know Tide makes them

I have a washer that needs this. The ALL that they sell at COSTCO is HE. Some opther brands come as HE. Just look on the bottle and if it's HE you'll see a little symbol. If not you can't use it on that machine. It's like a luxury car and premium gas. You can put regular in it, but it's not good for the engine.

I wouldn't mess with it....if it says HE, use HE....I know a lot of the front loading washes require it...

Re: H E laundry detergent??
Yes, it is recommended that you use He detergents in front load washers. But, you don't have to - you can use regular, just use HALF as much. It has to do with sudsing, since the front loaders use a lot less water, so you don't need a lot of detergent or a high sudsing one.
In our old washer, we used regular detergent. The washer lasted us 7 years before we looked at getting a new one (it was leaking from the tub, so not sure if it had anything to do with no using He detergent). We ended up getting a new washer last year, with all electronic and digital controls, so per the salesman, we use He detergent so we don't void any warranties.

I agree with all the other posters. Some people say you "can" use the regular detergent with HE washers, but it does damage them in the long-run.
We've used All Free & Clear HE since DD was born and we love it!

Re: H E laundry detergent??
yup... the new HE washers can only use HE detergent. i think, the way i understand, is that because the HE washers use less water, they need a detergent that makes less suds. so thats what the HE detergent is for. the regular detergent makes too many suds for the HE washer to handle... or something like that. i would try taking them back and maybe you can exchange them for HE.

HE detergent makes less bubbles. I use Dreft for DS's clothes and because it is not HE I only use a little bit of it. I use the HE measuring cup.

Re: H E laundry detergent??
When we first got our house, we didn't realize that our washing machine needed HE detergent. No matter how much or little regular detergent we put in, the suds were out-of-control. Needless to say, our washer broke. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the detergent, and the machine was 7 years old. We're using Tide Free HE in our new machine with no problems and no out-of-control suds!

Re: H E laundry detergent??
I use regular detergent in my front loader. No issues.
I just don't go overboard on the amount I use. I never have sudsing issues.
I'll buy the HE stuff if it's on sale, but if it's not on sale I get the regular. Free and Clear.
