Hard Boiled Egg Smell in Laundry/Boiler room

Ughhh, the last few loads of laundry I did, I noticed a hard boiled egg smell...I can't pin point where it is coming from since my washer and dryer are in the same room as my boiler, but if I had to guess, it seems the washer is the culprit...

I googled and info about sewer gas, the water heater and sulfates in the water came up..How the heck do I get to the bottom of this, plumber? Boiler guy?

Anyone have any experience with this???

It could be a sewage backup or a pump problem. I would call a plumber.

Make sure none of your drain traps are dry. The house we purchased gave off a similar smell when we ran the sink in the basement. Since the house was vacant for a while before we purchased, the drain traps were dry which is what lead to the smell. This link explains more.

We have a similar smell and it is definitely coming from our washing machine. When I lift up the lid, it is overpowering.

We opted to just replace the machine as it is 7 years old.

This was my first thought too- a gas leak smells like rotten eggs.

Re: Hard Boiled Egg Smell in Laundry/Boiler room

I have a gas stove, but I'm almost sure the lines aren't anywhere near the washer/dryer..but who knows....do I call the gas company? I haven't smelled it since my op and have done tons of laundry, so I dont believe its the washer, but maybe it triggers it? I'm thinking my dryer is gas??? Ehh I don't know, just want to call the right person

A gas leak smells like rotten eggs. You should call Keyspan immediately.

I have this issue and it is actually the washing machine. We were told to replace it. It's over 5 years old so we are doing it asap. I cannot stand the stench after every load I do.

I have the same thing - I don't have any gas in my home - it's from the washing machine. I googled it and read that you are supposed to keep the door of the washing machine open when you aren't using it to let the rubber dry out.

They put odor in the gas so you can smell it! Definitely call.

We had this smell with our new HE washer. It needed to be cleaned with Assure. It worked fabulous.
