If I had hardwood floors I would just do an area rug.
We live in an apartment that has crappy industrial carpet, so I bought a large area rug to go over it.

I like carpet in my baby's rooms....they are constantly on the ground and playing - so I want them to be comfortable. It's a matter of preference though!

Re: Hardwood floors or carpet in the baby's room?
Since we have hardwoods, we are doing an area rug in front of the crib. There was no way either of us wanted to cover up the flooring.

Same here. We have hardwood floors but that is because DH has severe asthma and carpet catches so much dust and hair, we had to put in hardwood floors. Our bedding came with a rug that matches so we used that.

Re: Hardwood floors or carpet in the baby's room?
I have hardwood but I like the feel of carpet.....my DH did not want to spend the $ so we are keeping the hardwood and put down an area rug. Then I read that it’s better for the baby anyway because of less dust etc getting trapped in the carpet.

We have hardwood in DDs room, and I have a large area rug down which takes up the majority of her room.

There is hardwood throughout the house. We did receive the area rug that matches his bedding and we'll use it in there.

Re: Hardwood floors or carpet in the baby's room?
We've got hardwood floors & I'm contemplating getting an area rug for the nursery. I have bad allergies & can't have carpet in the house & I'm afraid may have the same...

we have hardwood with an area rug.
DS is constantly spilling food or milk on the floor in the house--it's so easy to wipe up on hardwood.

Re: Hardwood floors or carpet in the baby's room?
We just got brand new wall to wall carpet installed (ripped out the old carpet), but if there were hardwoods in there we wouldn't cover them up.

keep the hardwoods. If by chance your kids have severe allergies or asthma like my DS...carpets are a huge trigger!!

If I had hardwood floors (someday!) I would definitely do an area rug.

Re: Hardwood floors or carpet in the baby's room?
We had carpet and ripped it up. There was beautiful hardwood floors underneath that we paid to get finished. I bought a small area rug. It looks better and I think its better for the baby too as far as dust etc.

Re: Hardwood floors or carpet in the baby's room?
In your case I would leave the hardwood floors and get an area rug.
You never know what allergies, senstivies, etc. that the baby may have.
If he is concerned about the child playing on the wood floor, they won't have much bedroom alone time until they are older, and at this point you may want to re-do the room anyways as a big girl room and can reassess the carpet vs. wood floor option.

Re: Hardwood floors or carpet in the baby's room?
you will be doing yourself a favor if you keep the hard wood floors and just throw down an area rug.
If you plan on changing your baby in the nursery room you have to think of pee accidents (if your child is a boy), throw up, baby spilling formula or milk when a little older. I just think it is sooo much easier to clean wood floors as opposed to carpet.
