Has anyone dined at a restaurant yet?
DH wants to go out for Father's Day and I am leary of it for myself but I'm really on the fence about bringing my 3 kids out.
I have relaxed my restrictions with people I know and going to homes of people I know but I'm not really all that thrilled about going where there are a bunch of strangers and spending a prolonged amount of time there. It's different than doing a Target run. I have to sit in a chair, touch a table, hold utensils, eat off plates, etc. DH thinks I'm ridiculous. He was telling me how packed Patchogue was this weekend and I said there is no way I would be standing to elbow to elbow with strangers in a bar right now. I said that if people do too much too soon and the numbers spike, there goes any hope of the kids going to school in September. He looked at me like I'm the one that's crazy. Am I being crazy? What are all of you doing?

Has anyone dined at a restaurant yet?
DH and I went out for dinner on Saturday night and it was nice. The place was adequately distanced and the owner was running around prepping everything and speaking to those who didn't distance properly (it's a bar so there were some young drunk people not fully adhering to the rules - and some older people trying to hang out at the bar incorrectly).
It was nice to be out and about.
We used our masks when needed and washed our hands throughly before, during and after. It was nice to eat outside.
We didn't bring our kids though.
There is another place by us that is packed so we are avoiding going there... I'm not ready for that (and in honesty I think I was over packed places before Covid lol).

I asked DH if he wanted to go this afternoon since we both have off and he refuses even outdoors.

Re: Has anyone dined at a restaurant yet?
I have 4 kids and I won’t be bringing them out anytime soon. I would probably go out with just dh and I, but I haven’t yet. I would only go where there aren’t a lot of people though. I told dh I want to wait a couple weeks to see what happens to the numbers first. Long Island is on track for phase 3 next week I think. Once that happens I will wait 2-3 weeks before going anywhere.

I won't be for a long time - not indoors. Even if the tables are socially distanced, the virus can be spread long distances with air conditioning blowing everything around the building.
Ironically, I'd be ok eating outdoors (as long as I wiped everything down) but I usually hate eating outside bc of wind and bugs.

I need my eyes checked, I accidentally scrolled too fast and saw the title of this post as "Has anyone DIED at a restaurant yet?"
Nope. I don't plan to eat at a restaurant anytime soon. Even if I wear a mask, the stress of taking it on and off periodically just to drink and eat would ruin the experience.
This just came out:

Has anyone dined at a restaurant yet?
I have gone out 3 times since last week. First two times - everything (meaning precautions) was great. Masks, clean menus etc
Went out last night and probably should have left. We were greeted by the owner/manager who had just walked out of the kitchen and wasn't wearing a mask. Sat down and bus boy was wearing one and there was hand sanitizer on the table - which I took as a good sign. Then menus were paper - you would think a good thing, but hey were OBVIOUSLY used multiple times (they have specials on different nights of the week and all the menus for different nights, plus the main menu were stapled together). Then of the 5 employees I saw working - 2 busboys were wearing masks. Waiter and waitress had masks, not covering their noses and the owner/manger - no mask at all. Will never go back there again, even when things are more "normal."

Yes and it was heavenly! We went Saturday night and are going again this coming Saturday night to another place.
I'm less worried about my DD than I am about us. We are at higher risk than her based on our ages alone.
I am probably doing lunch this week with co-workers too- still deciding where and when
I am still confused about these packed bars and elbow to elbow stories I am hearing. Bars are not open. Are they doing it illegally?

Outdoor bars were allowed to open.
I left my kids home - not because of Covid but, because they aren't really fans of going out to eat and I wanted to enjoy it.

how did the good places handle menu? normal menus that coudl be wiped down? paper menus that were thrown out?
I have seen a few places by mention that you have to download an app, or scan a QR on a sign to gt a menu.
I know it seems hard to believe , but some people ( like my parents) don't actually have smart phones.)
I am not eager to eat outside. I would be too on edge.

Interesting. Didn't realize that about the bars. It's very hard to distance at a bar and you can't wear a mask while drinking so even with it being outside I can't see how that works. Yeah I hear you about the kids and going out to eat. We had to take DD and she normally hates going out to eat but since we hadn't gone since March she actually was good about it. lol

I plan on going out tonight and can’t wait
I will probably bring my own hand sanitizer just to make sure my hands are cleaned the second before I eat.

One place had paper menus that they disposed of. The other had laminated menus that they wiped down

Has anyone dined at a restaurant yet?
I have been out to eat once on Long Island, and multiple times in Newport over the weekend. All outside obviously since indoor isn't open. No issues. All servers wearing masks. I took the same precautions I always would pre covid. Like alcoholing my hands before touching my food and keeping my hands off my face. I have also always alcohol my hands after touching shared ketchup bottles etc. But, not one place had shared anything. All single serve.

The place I went had regular menus but I just sanitized my hands the second before I ate. Who knows if they ever wipe them down. Even pre any of this I'd always sanitize right before eating. The menus are touched by many people and who wants a stomach bug, the flu or even a common cold.

No, but I cant wait to go. Probably next week we will be going. I am not a fan of eating out on holidays such as Mother's Day and Father's Day. It is too crowded. Many restaurants are doing specials. Have you thought about ordering take-out?

Yes I think so too. It was so nice out on that patio. I felt they were pretty good too with cleanliness- but I always sanitize my hands anyway- just in case. I'm a bit nutty with that.

Re: Has anyone dined at a restaurant yet?
DH and I went out last weekend and are going out again this weekend. The restaurant used paper menus, and I didn't see anything egregious occurring. Staff and customers were following the mask-wearing rules. It was relaxing and enjoyable.
I think, though, if you're not going to feel relaxed, it may not be worth it yet. It really depends what you're comfortable with!
