No eating out yet. Still happily doing takeout.

Has anyone dined at a restaurant yet?

i know i'm in a land far, far away... but i did go out to eat last week.

a chain restaurant. every other table had a big bucket on it... the ones where beers are served in ice... indicated it was not to be used. everyone working was wearing protective gear and they stood back from the table when they took your order and asked if everything was ok.

it was nice to not eat restaurant food out of a plastic container.

down side: there was no lingering and chatting. eat and get out.

No, we're waiting. But we don't go out often anyway.

No interest in worrying about who has a mask, who doesn't, having to rush out, etc.

Re: Has anyone dined at a restaurant yet?

the funny thing is, the service was SOOOO slow on Saturday night that we were there for an hour and a half- no rushing out. We lingered over wine forever.
I think they were working out some kinks and only had like 2 waiters working since the capacity was low.
Not that I minded... but there was no rush at all.

Yes! The 3 times I've been out, it has definitely been slow. Last night we sat down at 7:40 and didn't finish (apps, entree, dessert) until close to 10:00! And the other 2 times were at least 2 hours each

I think they are trying to run on a smaller staff for money saving purposes to be honest. They are not at full capacity so I would imagine money is tight.

I think that's the case. It didn't bother me at all. I was more expecting to feel rushed, so was glad to relax and enjoy (for the most part - lol)

Re: Has anyone dined at a restaurant yet?

So DH dragged me out tonight to "rip the bandaid off". Not going to lie...I was a nervous wreck. We went to Whaler's in Bay Shore. All the tables were minimally 10' apart. I counted 14 tables on the deck. Obviously they could be reconfigured to be more or less but that's what was happening when we were there. All of the servers were wearing masks. Our waitress changed her gloves literally every time she came over. Paper menus. I watched the kid sanitize the table by us when the people left. He takes his job of sanitizing the crap out of the tables and chairs very seriously which I appreciated. LOL I actually felt very relaxed and the food was awesome. Highly recommend if you are looking for a night out.

Has anyone dined at a restaurant yet?

Are people wearing masks at restaurants? And then taking them off to eat and then putting them back on?

I have gone out 3 times since last week. First two times - everything (meaning precautions) was great. Masks, clean menus etc

Went out last night and probably should have left. We were greeted by the owner/manager who had just walked out of the kitchen and wasn't wearing a mask. Sat down and bus boy was wearing one and there was hand sanitizer on the table - which I took as a good sign. Then menus were paper - you would think a good thing, but hey were OBVIOUSLY used multiple times (they have specials on different nights of the week and all the menus for different nights, plus the main menu were stapled together). Then of the 5 employees I saw working - 2 busboys were wearing masks. Waiter and waitress had masks, not covering their noses and the owner/manger - no mask at all. Will never go back there again, even when things are more "normal."

Do you mind sharing what place that was?

It was Bella Vie in Bayshore

OK so I had to come back here since I thought of you and this post today. My boss wanted a few of us to meet for a lunch meeting. Where we were going was up in the air until a few hours before when he told us where he made a reservation- you guessed it- it was at Bella Vie. Chat Icon
Like seriously - of ALL the places- that is where he picks and the day after your post about it. Chat Icon
So I go, because I'm pretty laid back and it was a team meeting, but I'm cautious and looking around.
We were the ONLY ones in the whole place at 12:30 pm. And it stayed that way. A couple showed up around 2:30 or so. But other than that- whole deck to ourselves.
I noticed the hand sanitizer on the tables - nice touch, I used it a lot.
Waitress had the mask on but it was below her nose- every time she came over she noticed me looking at her and she'd pull it up over her nose.
Owner came out to say hello- he had the mask on at least which is better than when you went.
Bathrooms were super clean- smelled of bleach and tons of soap and hand sanitizer all over the sink area.
I noticed a basket of disposable masks at the entrance which was nice in case you didn't have one on you to walk in and out.
She gave me the paper menus and I remembered what you said. They looked clean, but you are right they had the whole week of specials stabled to them so that was suspect.
But when I asked for a wine list she made a point to apologize that the wine list was not disposable. I said that was fine, I'd just sanitize after touching it. So maybe they do throw out the paper menus, or she was just putting on an act.
All in all it was ok- we were really the only ones there but I see what you mean about certain things

So, I had posted what I wrote here in a FB dining group and the owner actually called me!. He apologized profusely, saying he knew everything I wrote was correct and that they should do better. BUT, he also made excuses - they're just trying to figure everything out, he can't get some of his workers to come back, blah blah blah. When I tried to explain to him that I had been out 2 other times and it wasn't an issue, he didn't want to hear it. When I asked what he was going to do to make things better, he did say he would speak to his staff - but I had to ask, and he didn't say they WOULD do better, just that he would try. I was so curious to see if things had changed, so THANK YOU for going there! Chat Icon Good to know they've made some changes, but the waitress still not wearing a mask right unless she sees someone looking is really not cool

OMG I can't believe he called you. Funny you should mention him. He came out to say hello to us like I said and he was very debbie downer and gloom and doom. Bitchhing about the mask how it's uncomfortable, how his business has suffered, etc.
I tried to be positive and said- well we go to phase 3 soon so you can have people inside again at least and he was all like yes, but only 50% capacity, etc etc.
Very complainy type person. Not ideal for a business owner dealing with the public.
The waitress was also very inexperienced and told us it was only her 4th day and struggled to open a bottle of wine- said her past jobs were in Florida at beach bars where she was "slinging beers" Chat Icon not opening wine.
My boss actually gave her a lesson on the best way to open a bottle of wine.

Chat Icon

All in all I think they are a bit of a hot mess in general. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back there. Shame too ,the view was beautiful! Great location.

Re: Has anyone dined at a restaurant yet?

We took our children out for dessert during the week to Friendlys. We were planning on just getting ice cream at the take out window but noticed there were tables set up in their parking lot, so we figured this was a good way to give it a try. Friendly's is obviously not fine dining, but I felt they did a wonderful job. They used all disposable cups, utensils, etc. All of the employees wore masks the entire time. We were one of three families there so they had more than enough space to keep us socially distant. The only drawback was there were no umbrellas, so on a really hot day it would be difficult. Funnily enough, as we were finishing our ice cream my daughter started hysterically laughing because a bird flew overhead and dropped a little surprise (on the ground luckily! )Chat Icon

Experience was as good as it could be in the circumstances, they did everything they could to make everyone feel comfortable and it was a quick visit which was a good way to introduce my children to the experience.
