Re: Has anyone ever had a ganglian cyst?
I've had one since I was in junior high...it comes and goes, and when it springs back up, I hit it with a book, or on the table, and it breaks up.....I never realized how common they were...funny...

Re: Has anyone ever had a ganglian cyst?
I have one that comes and goes. When it's visible, it hurts. But when it's gone, I have no pain whatsoever.
I had my wrist x-rayed and I was told to have it surgically removed would be quite a recovery time, so I never bothered. I wasn't aware that you could have it drained, so the next time it appears, I will look into it.

Re: Has anyone ever had a ganglian cyst?
Well Mine came back a few weeks ago and it was the worst it ever been, had it for over 2 weeks, I think it was worse bc of carrier Michael in that arm and in the carrier, WELL I finally went to the Dr about it a week ago last friday, He wanted to get a X-Ray before he did anything, to make sure there was no damage to my wrist - got xray on monday, but my appt for dr wasnt till Thursday, well by the time I went back to Dr it was almost gone and no more Pain - FIGURES - I finally go to do something about it and its too late. So it was a waste of time and copay BUT he said next time it comes back come in and he will give me a cortazone shot.
So if I get it I will post and let you know how it is and how long it lasts. good luck

my dad used to hit them with a book and break it up not sure if it worked - think it did
but the book sure hurt more than the cyst!
My brother had one on his wrist and this is what the Dr. told him to do! He would bang it on a table or with a book etc and it did go away.
They told my sister to do that too! I didn't believe her until now!

I used to get them all the time in HS but they'd go away on their own. They were so painful.

Re: Has anyone ever had a ganglian cyst?
Oh my God. I just had one removed from my left hand (back of my hand). I had it for a few years now, but since Ava was born, it has gotten really bad. It would flair up every couple of months, but when it did, it got like a nice size ball on the back of my hand. I couldn't take care of my little darling. I think it was from repetitive motion of holding her legs up in one hand as I put a diaper under her, her little buttons on her clothes, etc.
Anyway, I went to a hand surgeon (Dr. Rogachefsky) in West Islip. I had the surgery done two weeks ago. I was in a cast up my arm for like a week. I am fine now. Little scar. He told me that it actually turned out to be a bone spur, not a ganglian cyst like he originally thought.
Anyway, it is swollen still. I will let you all know how i am doing, but so far, so good.
