Has anyone tried the pull ups over underwear method of potty training?
DS is ready, mostly, but gets very very upset when he has an accident. I'm hoping we can start potty training like this and then switch to all underwear once he gets used to using the potty consistently.
Anyone try this?

Re: Has anyone tried the pull ups over underwear method of potty training?
While I haven't potty trained my dd (she is only 18 months) JMO I worked in childcare for 10+ years and I am really not a fan of using pull ups. I've seen kids regress. I am strong believer that if you think they are ready just put them into underwear. They will have accidents and get upset but eventually they just get it. Pull ups are a diaper really and many kids just resort to using them like a diaper. Most kids take about a week and than are trained. Best of luck.

Re: Has anyone tried the pull ups over underwear method of potty training?
We only used pull ups at night, DD was day trained very quickly with panties only. It took about 6 months for her to stay dry through the night. Once she started staying dry at night for several nights in a row I started putting panties under the pull up. This helped her wake up when she had to go. She only had a couple accidents and has been dry ever since.

this exactly. I tried the pullups over undies idea for one day, the first day of training. I thought maybe DD would get the message by feeling the wet in the undies but I wouldnt have a ton of messes to clean up. It kind of backfired on me because she just went about her business because the pullup held everything in. Maybe it was just her but it didnt work out. The next day we did no undies or pants (home all day), the day after just undies and 3rd day, fully dressed. She only had a few accidents and has been day trained since with only a handful of accidents. I pretty much think pullups only prolong the training. I would go all in and deal with the accidents as they come. good luck!

The other part of the problem is that this isn't our house... it's a rental and there are carpets all over. I don't want to mess them up
I'm going to give it a couple of days, if it's not working I'll ditch them. He had one accident in 6 hours and came to me right away so maybe that's a good sign?

I've been wondering about this too..... then the kid would have the feel of cotton underwear but I wouldn't have to clean all the pants/carpets etc.
