What did you do at nighttime/bedtime re first stages of potty training (pull up or regular underwear)?

How did you handle nighttime/bedtime re potty training? Did you use a pull up, or regular underwear and just let them wet the bed? I was trying the 3 day potty training...that says to use regular underwear but I am so not ready for that tonight.

We used pull ups for quite a while. It was a year before she started having dry nights. Once she started having several dry nights in a row we put panties UNDER her pull ups. When she had accidents she woke up because she was wet but there was nothing to clean but her. Made middle of the night easier. It took a few weeks of that for her to learn to wake up in time to go.

Initially we did the pull ups at night for a while but then she relied on the pull ups to poop. We then did the 3 day potty training & gave her pull ups to the Easter bunny & the first 2 nights she was dry! Then she wet the 3rd night & it was spotty since then. It's now a few months later & she'll still be wet 1 out of 4 nights; BUT I bought her these rubber panties that she wears (non-scratchy/noisy ones) & I also double sheeted the bed w/ a full waterproof sheet over the mattress then 1 set of sheets. Then I have a crib protector strip that is waterproof over those sheets & another sheet set on top.

So IF she has an accident & wakes up; it's very easy to strip the first set of sheets fast.

When we started the 3 day potty training , she took a nap that day and stayed dry. I was surprised so I decided to give it a shot overnight. So we used regular underwear. I can't remember if she had an accident that night, but honestly . since she has been trained, she has only had a handful of accidents. I only let her have a few sips of juice that night and made her go to the bathroom before bed.

Well with DD#1 she was waking up dry most nights for a long time before she fully trained and once she gave up her pull ups she threw her night ones out on day 5 of training. And has never had an issue - BUT she wakes when she has to go (about 3-4 times total in 9 months).

DD#2 she is 100% trained during the day - only wears regular underwear and she has no accidents during the day. I tried to take away her night time ones BUT she does not wake - and I found her one morning wet and still sleeping. I still have her in night time pull ups for now- she is only 27 months though and I know my ped said some children aren't ready for night time for a while longer. For NOW - she wakes dry 5-6 nights a week and wet 1-2 nights a week (this has been consistent for several weeks now). I plan to wait until she is waking dry for 2 weeks then take them away. She "thinks" she has gotten rid of her pull ups - and thinks that her "night" ones are just thicker "night time pants". I tried the rubber pants but she pees out of them.

My feeling is you can try and take them away - if she wakes and goes that is great then you can take them away but if they are having regular accidents they just might not be ready for night training yet. I think my DD sleeps too soundly at this point in time. I think that is it more biological if they have a smaller bladder as my ped put it than day training.

Ok so it varies.

I put the pull ups on since she usually wakes SOAKED. I just cant deal with that tonight, bad me, I know.

I will see what I think about tomorrow night, based on tomorrows training and tonights results.

Thanks
