Has anyone's child ever been tested for sleep apnea?

Juliette is 37 months, and has had fluid in her ear for almost a year now. They tested her today, and they said she has a drop in hearing due to all the pressure build up in there. They are debating doing her tubes and tonsils as well as her adnoids. She snores (and has snored since she was born) like a 50 year old man. They are afraid she may have sleep apnea as well.

Has anyone ever had their child tested and if so, can you please tell me what I can expect? Sfe is petrified of all doctors and I am stressing this so much. Thank you...

My daughter had enlarged adnoids and tonsils we had the surgury with tubes when she was five. She also snored but we never did a sleep study for apnea. My ent just felt that with the enlarged stuff in the back of her throat she had periods of apnea.

We have not done a test for apnea, but my friends did- at home. They got this really cool equipment from their ENT- one thing went in the nose to measure breathing and one thing on the finger to measure oxygen, I think. And it recorded him all night. They loved it, because they didn't have to go to a hospital, they just did the test at home. I don't know if insurance covered it, or if it was expensive, but I think it should be less expensive than a test at a hospital!

We also did the home study for DD when she was 18 months. She did have sleep apnea, and just 2 weeks ago we had the surgery for ear tubes/tonsils/adnoids. The home study was great, so nice that we didn't have to go to the hospital. Our doctor is affiliated with LIJ/Schneiders, and we got all of the equipment from there. If you have any questions about the study and/or the surgery, please feel free to FM! Chat Icon Chat Icon
