Have you ever cried at work?
What were the circumstances that led to it?

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
Yes, like a bajillion times. I'm a crier. Luckily, I can hide in my walk in closet in my classroom when I do! Once I cried because I screwed up royally with something that had to do with scheduling and my new boss was SOOOOOOOOO mad at me. I felt terrible and cried IN FRONT of him! Talk about unprofessional! I think I scared him because then he felt bad for ME Then I cried when I found out my dad had cancer in the middle of a work day.
I cried when I was so pregnant that I couldn't get up the stairs to my babyshower on the fourth floor, so I had to crawl up on my knees
I also cried when one of my good friends at work was really pizzed about something that had nothign to do with me, but she told me F*** off when she was mad.
We're all super emotional at my school, and we all seem to cry at one point or another

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
I can relate to the cancer When I found out my father had cancer I had just started at my current job and was still on orientation so I had to ask my manager if I could leave early because he was having surgery. I barely got out one word before I burst into tears.
ETA: And I think there have only been 2 other instances. One years ago when I worked in an office and one of my coworkers was such an a-hole that I just broke down out of frustration in dealing with his stupid sh1t. The other time was when a patient unexpectly died. All other times I've been able to hold it in till I get home or a least till I reach my car. Which FYI crying and driving is pretty hazardous!

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
I cried out of frustration at being overwhelmed a few times- nobody saw luckily.
I also cried like a moron when my cat was sick and I was on the phone with my hubby about it and I just couldn't hold it together. My boss saw that one- I think I scared him!!

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
Yes I've cried a couple of times at work.
Once because my principal walked into my classroom and yelled at me in front of my students and essentially destroyed my lesson.
Once because I was on the phone with my DH and he was being difficult and I just couldn't take it anymore. Luckily I was in my classroom my myself.
Once after I threw up in the bathroom from morning sickness because I was just so tired of puking my guts up at work
Once when my AP "asked" to work extra days during the summer and I knew I couldn't say know. I was so tired and finishing my 1st trimester that I just wanted to sleep.
Did I mention I am a crier????

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
Yup.
Lots of times. When I found out one of my friends was giving notice. When my boss left. When I found out my cousin died while at work. On 9/11. I went through a really bad time personally that had me crying left & right. I can mostly hide it - my desk is behind a partition in a 2 person office so you have to come looking for me to see me.

yes, more than I'd like to admit, but I don't work at a normal office or with normal people.

1st day back from maternity leave. It was the worst day ever - and only a small portion of the misery had to do with leaving my baby that day....

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
I'm not a crier, but burst into tears once at work. I was teaching a 9th grade class in a very difficult school (where I no longer work), and the kids were being their usual rambunctious selves. Nothing I couldn't handle. But my mother was going into the hospital the next day to see if her ovarian cancer had returned after 12 months of remission, and all of a sudden their stupid cr*p was just too much to handle. It was like - my mother could be DYING here, and you guys can't even fill out vocabulary words on a stupid worksheet? I couldn't help it - I started crying, and stepped out of the room for a sec so they wouldn't see. An assistant principal was passing by and of course assumed a kid had tried to assault me or something, and told me to go to the bathroom and splash some water on my face, and went into my classroom and let the kids have it, but good.
When I came back to the room, I had calmed down a bit, and I actually explained to them that my mother was sick, and that I was scared. They were 15 years old; they could handle it (just the basics). After class, more than one of them came up to me to tell me that a parent had had cancer, and they knew what I was going through.
So it was okay. It happens. Sometimes it's too much to take to act like everything's normal for 8 hours a day at work, when everything is far from normal the other 16 hours a day at home.

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
Oh, can I add that I started crying like a baby about two weeks ago when one of my 6th graders gave this amazingly heartfelt speech about himself and why he thought he'd be a good candidate for some position on the student council. He's new and no one knew him really, and he just gave this amazingly poingnant speech for an 11 year old. I had to run out of the room like a jackass.

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
Yes 2x since Aug--and I'm not a crier at all.
It all had to do with stuff that I was going through at home that had me so upset.
Both times someone just asked me how I was doing

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
Yup..numerous times. I am definitely a crier.
1- the million times my boss berated be (i've lost count)
2- when my father's gf's dog was put to sleep
3- stress from having a physically abusive student in my classroom (he tried to attack me 3 times... after the 2nd time I lost it while talking to a coworker)

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
When I worked as a paramedic I had my share of crying days at work. It was usually when we lost a child we were working on. I could always hold it together when it was an adult, but children always broke me down

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
A million times when I worked at the supermarket but I also started there at 15.
I had people scream at me, tell me I was going to work there forever, tell me I was stupid, tell me I was ugly etc.
Then one day, when I was rushing home to take care of my grandmother with Alzheimer's - I had a woman tell me that I was inconsiderate and that she wished that one day I had elderly parents to take care of that and no one would help me - i basically sat down in the middle of the store and had a breakdown.
At my current job?? Only once and I made it to the bathroom. I was given a mock audit and I failed it. Even though it was just for practice I got so upset!

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
Yes! It was my first day of teaching. I had the class from hell. They were terrible. Being a first year teacher is hard enough, but add a bad class to the mix, and it's 10x worse! I had just brought my class to lunch. I went back to my classroom and started sobbing at the thought that I had 33 more years of teaching to come! The guy who taught across the hall from me came over to ask me a question, and was like "Whoa! Are you Ok?" I felt like an arse.

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
Yes. My boss at my old job was such a prick. I would make myself sick before going to work in the morning b/c I absolutely hated the job. I only stuck it out b/c I was getting married, and I did not want to change jobs and take off for my honeymoon.

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
Yes my first day ever, I hated it so much during lunch I went for a walk and called my boyfriend (now husband) crying about it. A few other times since then when non-work-related things have been on my mind and I had a moment to think about them, it's made me cry but I've always been able to pull myself together & push it out of my thoughts & make it through the day.

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
I'm really not a crier--I can only think of one time that I cried at work.
I was teaching Kindergarten at the time, and my mom had called me the night before to tell me that my cat, who was almost 19 years old, was not doing well. She had stopped bathing herself, her eyes would randomly roll back in her head and she wasn't eating. She was going to be put to sleep on a Tuesday afternoon and I had to make it through the whole day before her appointment, which was at about 4:00.
I was sitting at my desk when my assistant walked in. She looked at me, said "What's wrong?" and I just let go.
I couldn't handle the fact that I wasn't with my best friend during her last day on earth. I had gotten her when I was 7 and we had grown up together.

Re: Have you ever cried at work?
yes, very recently. Not one of my finer moments at all. The situation just had to do with changes to my role and being forced to report to someone that I've had so many issues with in the past. It was my old manager that I cried in front of.
It just happened!
