Malteses have dental problems to begin with.. I brush them myself but every 6weeks my groomer gives her a really good cleaning and scraping.. I also give her flossies and bully sticks.. Her teeth are so gorgeous..

I got my poodles teeth done for the first time last week. It was just over $300.00. I try to keep on top of it and brush his teeth every day but he won't sit still for that long. I will continue to brush them every night and bring him in once a year for a good cleaning. His breath smells so much better!!!!!

We've only had them get the preventative shot.

Re: Have you gotten your dogs teeth cleaned?

My dog did...they say every year, but my mom laughed and said she has never heard of that and that dogs have been living well with out professional teeth cleaning. I agreed with her but did it this one time...they said for little dogs they have such teeth problems. She was under already getting a baby tooth extracted so i took advantage of it. I won't do it in the future. It scares me to have my little dog put under...I have my groomer brush her teeth every 2 weeks and she has many greenies!

Re: Have you gotten your dogs teeth cleaned?

Our vet checks his teeth on every visit and so far he has not needed a "dental." We do brush his teeth but not daily and not even weekly. He's 5 now. There is a good chance he will start to need the real thing soon.

It depends on the condition of your animal's teeth and their overall health.

My DH (a veterinarian) has had cats that ended up dying from infections that started with their teeth/gums (really bad teeth, turning into massive infections that travel in the bloodstream, eventually shutting down kidneys, etc.)

Some dogs just have bad teeth. My dogs love getting their teeth brushed, and they have an excellent diet, but no matter what we do, our one dog has to go in for dentals more frequently than our other dog (his litter mate).
