Have you had chicken pox?
Just wondering. I never had it. I either got really lucky after being exposed to it many times, or I have some strange immunity to it. My mom never had it (my siblings did) and my grandmother never had it (her children did, except my mom).
I have been exposed many times as a child and as an adult. I know I should get the vaccine, but I’m terrified of needles. Like really terrified to the point I need a ton of Xanax to just get the doctors to take a blood test or give other vaccinations. I need Xanax to just go to the doctor. Luckily, doctors are very patient with me.

Have you had chicken pox?
Yes I did. I grew up in the 70s when if a neighborhood kid had it you would go play with them to also get it.

Yeah, same thing. Didn’t work for me.

Have you had chicken pox?
I have never had it. Neither did my sister. My two brothers did have it and my mom had us play with them but we never got it. I got the vaccine when I was 32.

I got it as a kid. Then had a party so all the kids in the neighborhood could get it too. It was 1983.

Yes, when I was in 3rd grade. I remember me, my brother and sister all got it at the same time.

Have you been checked for immunity?
Nope. Terrified of needles and doctors. I was in the hospital three years ago and they did a blood test, but they couldn’t check everything. I asked them to please check everything, but they couldn’t (it was ER). I was in there for a panic attack.

Have you had chicken pox?
I never had it but my sister did. She caught it on vacation, and I sat with her in the car for 8 hours on the way home.

I'm the opposite. I always watch needles going into me at the doctor's office, donating blood, etc. As a diabetic for 26+ years, I estimate I've had well over 30,000 needle injections. It's a good thing I don't need Xanax for shots!

Have you had chicken pox?
Even though I was exposed a million times, I never got it as a kid. Got it as an adult in my mid twenties and it was awful. I’ve never felt that sick before or since.

I’ve had about five maybe a few more blood tests in my life. Passed out during all of them. I passed out at the movie Interview With a Vampire. I avoid them at all costs. I cannot handle it at all. Your post actually made me lie down, lol.
I just wish I could get over this fear.

Have you had chicken pox?
I got it from my brother. He had such a mild case and then I got it so bad. Even in my throat. I can still smell that oatmeal bath. LOL
Can you get tested for it? My mom thought she never had it. Then she got shingles which was so scary and it was so disgusting. The doctor said she must have such a mild case of the chicken pox that she probably didn't even know she had it.

OMG I had them in my throat too! It was like such a bad sore throat! I remember drinking the syrup from canned peaches to coat my throat. And yes, the oatmeal baths and the calamine lotion on every spot. And I had them on the bottom of my feet too- I had a horrible case!

I had them in places where the sun didn't shine.
It was also when we were on spring vacation. I remember looking out the window at the kids playing outside and here i was with socks on my hands so I wouldn't scratch.

Re: Have you had chicken pox?
What's odd is my mother was exposed to her siblings who had it when she was young and then exposed to me and my sister while we had it and she never got it. I wonder if some people are immune to it? Or are some people asymptomatic and if they get tested at some point they will have antibodies but never had symptoms of it?

Yeah, same thing. Didn’t work for me.
Didn't work for me either. All my siblings had it (at different times) - I never caught it. Was sent over to play with every kid in the neighborhood who had it, never caught it. Finally got tested for antibodies (which I did not have), got the vaccine, and went about my life. Then a few years later while testing for a genetic thing, they did a chicken pox antibody test - NO antibodies even though I had the vaccine. Got tested for antibodies again about 6 months later - NO antibodies! So the doctor has determined that I have some strange immunity thing going on. I also have never had a fever sore in my entire life (it's the same type of virus).

That's crazy! You are a medical mystery!
But I thought a fever sore was actually the herpes virus- I don't think it has to do with chicken pox. I never had one either and I had the chicken pox really bad

I truly believe this. My mother was pregnant with me when my sister got a HORRIBLE case of it (down her throat, in her nose, etc.). My mom had it as a kid so she didn't get it, but we all theorize that's why I seem to be immune to it. My younger siblings all got it at different times, but I never caught it from them no matter how much I played with them.
