Have you slept away from your DC

And, how old were they at the time?

We were out with my husbands friends the other night and they all acted like it was completely bizarre that I haven't slept away from Jack yet (almost 11 months)

My parents do have a crib there and we are going to put it up this weekend. I would love to have him sleep there once in a while - maybe once every month or two months. But, I'm not really looking to drop my kid off all the time.

This also came from one of the girls who had me watch her three month old son for a week while they went to Vegas. Mind you, I had only met the kid once prior to that.

Am I abnormal here????

You are not abnormal. My DS & DD are 20 months and I've never spent the night away from them.

Exactly. I do want Jack to get used to sleeping at my parents house because they would LOVE to spend a night and morning with him - and I would LOVE to get some real sleep (past 5:30 am) but I can't see doing it on a regular basis. I would miss the little monster too much! Chat Icon Chat Icon

No, I never have. But we have no one living close by. I think if my parents lived nearby and watched DD often, I would have let her sleep over occasionally. This friend you're talking about sounds abnormal to me. She had you watch her DC while she went to Vegas for a week?!?!? I couldn't see doing that ever. You had only met her DC once??? That is weird to me.

Re: Have you slept away from your DC

I spent one night away from DD.
I flew done to FL for my SIL's baby shower. I went down on a Sat morning and came home Sunday night.

That is the only time we have been apart.
She was 22 months old

YES!!

I love it,honestly. Not that I don't love my children, but I need time away sometimes with DH. Chat Icon Chat Icon

We have taken a couple of trips and dropped them off overnight with the grandparents if we have a late wedding to go to.

I know some parents that can't bear to be away from their children. I can't understand what the big deal is honestly, it's only a night or 2.Chat Icon

I just had my 11 week dd sleep at my sisters house for the first time. It was weird not to have her there but it was a nice break. She actually slept better at my sisters than she does at home.Chat Icon

Re: Have you slept away from your DC

yes, she's spent a few nights at Grandma's house, and we had a short "babymoon #2" without her.

I think she was about 6-7 months old the first time.

Re: Have you slept away from your DC

Just shy of 1 year and I still haven't. Not really ready to and I know some people will have their opinions about that...but I'm just not ready and that's just me! Chat Icon Plus, I'm still BFing and she doesn't take bottles...so I'm basically the first thing she sees in the morning and I nurse her before bed every night.

So that also makes it hard to leave her overnight.

It was pretty crazy. I was 6 months pregnant with Jack. Her boyfriend is one of my best friends and he asked me to watch their son for the week. I couldn't say no. When I tell you - I had to call them to ask questions about him --- they called me twice in one week. I couldn't believe it! I call a few times a day when I leave my dog with someone lol!

Oh - and they lied and extended their trip. I had a work meeting so I had to drop the kid off at their aunts house.

Totally bizarre!

Re: Have you slept away from your DC

DH and I have vacationed without the kids and they have stayed at my parents house.

ETA that the only reason that I'd be able to be away from them is because they are at my parents' house. I wouldn't let them sleep anywhere else.

Eventually - this is my goal. To go on a nice relaxing vaca with my husband. We have so many family trips planned for this year though - that it's not going to happen until at least next year.

Re: Have you slept away from your DC

no and he is 17 months old.

I would like to be a little more free...if my sister or mother is visiting, to leave for a weekend. But with Leo its an absolute no go.

He doesn't want Josh to miss us and Leo barely gets anytime off so he can't see leaving Josh behind on days off.

Oddly enough...what is so much more shocking to me is mothers who leave babies home with the dadsChat Icon My friend in FL is in a wedding in Buffalo. Leaving the 4 month old home with her DH for the weekend.

I told Leo there is no way I could do that, and he said great...there is no way that I would ever want that to happenChat Icon

But then I talk a big game...I am in denial about upcoming jury duty. To be hours and hours away from Josh. I am going to miss him so much.

And I would be lying if I did not admit that one of the reasons I put off pregnancy is that I can't imagine being in the hospital for 3 days without him.Chat Icon

I did recently and she is 3 months old. But I had to b/c I was invited to my cousins's wedding in GA. I was reluctant and upset to go!

then, I enjoyed myself for 3 days and then felt guilty.

I hear ya! 99% of the time, we go everywhere with our kids. I'm of the mentality that I had kids to be with them and not to dump them on people. lol But there have been the few occasions where they've stayed at my parents house on a night where we've had a wedding to attend (and it wouldn't make sense to pick them up after the wedding and wake them up to drive home, when we can just wake them up the following morning), or when we've gone away for alone time.

It's VERY hard to dettach yourself from your babies. But once you're there, it's worth it. Chat Icon

Yes. Thomas is 13 months, and I've slept away from him 4 or 5 times for one night at a time (once - 2 nights). The first time, he was 2 months. Always with my parents at our house or theirs. He has a crib there and he LOVES Grandma and Grandpa!!

My 2 month old son slept at my mother's house when we attended a wedding. Then at almost a year old, he stayed with my parents for a week while we went on a cruise.

Re: Have you slept away from your DC

I only did one night when DD was about 8 weeks old & in the full swing of the colic crying. My mother took DD to my SIL's house for the night so I could get some sleep. My mom and SIL were a tag team through the night. It was an awesome night of sleep...until I woke up engorged in the morning.Chat Icon

ETA: DD is 19 months old now.

Nope...haven't done it yet and seem to have a hard time even thinking of it. I actually haven't even had anyone take him other than daycare for the day.

But this weekend we are sending him to my MIL for the day so we can get stuff done around the house for his party...not sleeping over (although it would be a huge help) - I just can't. I start thinking about him having a hard time getting to sleep, not being in his crib, not being there if he wakes, messing up his schedule, all that stuff and I panic. Chat Icon

Re: Have you slept away from your DC

I have a number of times. Usually for a night and they are either with DH or their grandparents. My sister and brother have taken them once or twice as well.

We have gone away for a two weekends since they were born. I also have gone on two bachelorette parties (both were three nights) and I also went on an family girls weekend away (2 nights). We also have left them overnight for some weddings and one time my sister wanted DH and I to go out on the town and she took them for the night.

I have a lot of family around who love to watch the boys and DH and I are big believers of alone time for us. We both work FT and have twins so sometimes just some alone time is needed. It makes our relationship stonger and makes us better parents. But that is just us.
