Having 2nd thoughts about name
I REALLY love the name Charlotte, but I REALLY love Charlie more. I kind of just want to name her Charlie. I told DH and he basically told me he didnt care (gee thanks )
I guess I am considering just naming her Charlie because thats what I really want her to be called.
What should I do?

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
No matter what you name her, people are going to go by what you call her (for the most part), but on all her legal documents it will say Charlotte.
Personally I think you should stick with just Charlie. My mom's friend named her twins Jennie and Joey (both girls) and I love that their full names are also nicknames!

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
If you can't see yourself calling her Charlotte, I would just go with Charlie, or Charley.
I wanted to name DD #2 that (it's my Dad's name) and DH vetoed it.

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
I personally think it's better for her 'legal' name to be Charlotte .....call her Charile (this was one of my faves for a girl too) .....
but IMO, I think it gives her the option when she's an adult to use her 'legal' name if she would prefer in certain situations -

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
I also prefer the legal name Charlotte and the nickname Charlie. My name is Samantha and EVERYONE calls me Sam, but I like to use Samantha professionally and when I am first introduced.

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
I know of a baby named Charlee as her full name.
I think you should do whatever makes you happy. That being said, I would name her Charlotte and call her Charlie. I just think as an adult, she may like to go by Charlotte...and while Charlie is cute, it isn't terrible mature, KWIM?

I would just name her Charlie. DH and I seriously considered naming this baby just Charlie, if he were a girl.

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
Yes the only reason I would keep Charlotte is because when she's older, it does sound so much more professional. I would never use it though, except of course when legally necessary....

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
If it were me, I would go with Charlotte.
When I was born, my dad wanted to name me Cindy. My mom convinced him that they should name me Cynthia, but I was always called Cindy.
I never liked the name Cindy from a very young age. When I was in 4th grade, I tried out using Cynthia, but it didn't really fit either.
I came upon the nickname Thia when I was entering high school. I didn't have the guts to really start using it with the people I grew up with, so at that point my friends started calling me Thia. Once I was in college and ever since, I have been Thia.
So having been through this, I would go with the longer version because she'll have more options later on. (BTW- I'm not saying that you should because it's not my decision. I think Charlie is a very pretty name. I just thought this might give you a different side.)

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
I would go with Charlotte. She may be a total girly girl and hate having a "boys name". If that happens she has the option. It is pretty either way you go.

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
If this baby is a , it will also be Charlotte (after my grandmother) but we'll call her Charlie too. I think if you call her Charlie exclusively, it wil stick but I think as an adult she may prefer to have Charlotte in certain situations (like professionally). I know with DS we call him Nate but his given name is Nathaniel and nobody ever calls him that but I figure when he's an adult, it will be good to have a "formal" name, KWIM?

ITA, she may want to be more formal for certain things like resume and invites. But totally go by Charlie- I think it's adorable!

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
I think you should do whatever you are comfortable with.
is going to be Constantine (after DH's father). His nickname will be Dean for his american side of the family and friends, but everyone will choose which they prefer and when gets older he will have the choice also.
Just to be clear...this is an old-fashioned tradition and I dont LOVE either one of these but I've come to terms with it to keep the peace of the ILs
If you want you can officially name her Charlotte and give her the choice of Charlie when she gets older. That way you will both have the option.

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
I like having a nickname. My full name is Kathryn, but am NEVER called Kathryn, always Katie or Kate or Katelyn. I have to say, I love having a formal name. I think it looks better on resumes and legal documents.
I don't think my mother has called me Kathryn in my whole life!

If we were having a girl her name would have been Charly- no Charlotte, no Charlene- just Charly.
