Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name

I like having a nickname. My full name is Kathryn, but am NEVER called Kathryn, always Katie or Kate or Katelyn. I have to say, I love having a formal name. I think it looks better on resumes and legal documents.
I don't think my mother has called me Kathryn in my whole life!
ITA...I feel like you get "more bang for your buck" with Charlotte...sure you have Charlie (Which I LOVE btw) but you also have the formal option.

agreed! having a formal first name and a nickname myself, i enjoyed having the option to sound a bit more professional when i had the option of using my formal name Theresa, instead of Tessy.
And there were times at certain jobs in my past where I felt people's perception of me was different when using my nickname, so having the option to use my formal name at my next job made a difference to me, professionally.

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
I think if you do Charlotte then you have the option of using either name as does she.
Though Charlie is super adorable... it's also limited. Charlie really can't be called Charlette.
But honestly either way you go it's totally fine.

I personally think it's better for her 'legal' name to be Charlotte .....call her Charile (this was one of my faves for a girl too) .....
but IMO, I think it gives her the option when she's an adult to use her 'legal' name if she would prefer in certain situations -

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
I have a little girl in my class named Charli (no e also). That is her birth name. It is such a fun spunky name for a little girl....and the little girl I have in my class is an adorable kid with SPUNK! I like both as birth names however, thinking of the baby when she gets older, I like the idea of keeping Charlotte as the birth name bc she will have the choice of going with classic or "spunk." I LOVE Charlotte! JMO

I completely agree with this.
My legal name is Jaclyn but EVERYONE calls me Jackie. If everyone calls her Charlie, she will be called Charlie.

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
Personally I would go with Charlotte. I think it's cute to call a young kid or teenager Charlie but it might be a little strange for her as an adult.

Re: Having 2nd thoughts about name
I love Charlie as a nickname, but I think when people see her name on anything they are going to assume she is a boy because of the spelling, JMHO. I would go with Charlotte as the legal name and Charlie as her nickname, or perhaps think of a more "girly" spelling for Charlie.
