Heart stopping, reeeaaally bad mommy moment and PSA...
Went to the diner today for breakfast. As always, we had Abby in the Fisher Price booster. We were all getting ready to leave, so I took the tray off of the booster (but she was still strapped in) and undid the back strap that holds it onto the chair. I turned around for a moment to look for Kate's jacket when all of a sudden I heard another diner say, "Oh sh!t." Abby had tumbled-- booster and all--right onto the floor. A person at the next table helped me pick her up as she screamed and cried. I CANNOT believe I was so careless, especially knowing what an active little daredevil my DD is. I walked out in tears.
Now, we've had our share of moments in this house...DH has driven DD in a carseat and forgot to buckle her in, he's left the other one unattended on the changing table for her to tumble INTO the pack and play, but this was in PUBLIC and I just felt like the worst mom ever!
So PSA, even for a second...don't unbuckle any straps before the child is out of the seat!! Sigh...

i agree...public or private. You gotta keep a third eye on them. I have a few times been dressing my DS and turned to get socks. We sometimes forget how quick something bad can happen

Thank God she is OK. Erin, something like this happens to ALL of us sooner or later.
On New Years Day at our friends house DH put Grace on a chair for a second. He said "Dina, keep an eye on her, K?" Someone was talking to me and I did not hear him. Next thing we know she fell out of the chair hit her head on the carpet. I was right next to her and went to grab her to prevent her hitting the floor and she hit the floor anyway. I felt like THE worst mom ever. I was crying, Grace was crying, it was awful. So, Erin don't beat yourself up...we have ALL been there. For those who have not gone through a heart stopping moment with your DC you will experience something like this as well one day, it is inevitable.

Sometimes, I think the worst stuff happens only when other people are around to see it. Don't be too hard on yourself, she's OK, you're OK.

Re: Heart stopping, reeeaaally bad mommy moment and PSA...
I'm glad she is ok. When my middle guy was under 1yrs old I had him in his booster seat all buckled in and let him sit at the table with out his tray (BIG NO NO) because I have trim under my table and my son kicked off it and the entire chair with him in it fell back and he hit his head. To this day I wont even put the chair with the booster at the table, it sits against the wall. So don't beat yourself up your not alone in having a bad mommy moment.

You're not a bad mommy at all! It would of been a different story if you did not care, but you do! Like the other ladies said, don't beat yourself about it...as long as she is safe thats all that matters! You're coming on here to share this with us so that we are extra careful with our little ones and I greatly appreciate it! Nobody here will judge you...well almost.

Erin! So sorry to hear this happened, but glad to hear that Abby is alright.
I too have my fair share of mishaps happen with Troy at home, but being out in public, that's a whole different story!

Awww, I had tears for you reading this. Its ok and you are NOT a bad mommy. A bad mommy would not learn from her mistakes. Thats all you can do. I bet anyone in that diner with kids totally understood and anyone who didn't and judged you doesn't matter anyway. You are a GREAT mom, keep your head up and just give DD a ton of extra squeezes.
