Help, it's a total you know what show with my almost 4 year old
He'll be 4 in August. He's okay in the morning for about an hour. Then it's a s&!t show for the rest of the day. He whines and cries and carries on about everything. He'll repeat himself over and over. I don't give in. He'll call me and I answer bye he just keeps saying mom over again. I guess we enabled this behavior somehow, not sure exactly. I tell him he can't get something until he stops whining. It takes a few minutes and he finally does but not before he throws himself on the ground and screams. He hits and pushes my older son who is 7 for no reason. I'm hoping this is just a faze but I'm home with the boys for the summer and my patience is wearing very thin. We do timeouts but that doesn't seem to help. I need viable consequences for his age but I haven't found much on the internet. They say to just talk calmly to him which I've also tried. I need advice before I sell him on the black market. ????????

Help, it's a total you know what show with my almost 4 year old
It sounds like we have the same child lol. Have you had him evaluated? My son is having similar issues (he 5urned 4 in March)
I thought it was just an emotional thing but his teacher at kiddie academy advised that I have an evaluation done through the school district because he was having social issues and could not grip the pencil properly. I initially scoffed at this thinking it was too much pressure for a 3 yr old over a pencil grip. Anyway I am glad I went through with it because it turns out he has sensory issues and very poor fine motor skills. He is also apparently at risk for adhd, depression, anxiety. He is getting occupational therapy 2x a week for pre-k and a SEIT 3x a week. My son is negative about everything, always mad, can’t focus, and recently started pinching hair off his skin. I never experienced anything like this with my older one either. I am taking him to a developmental pediatrician t see if there is anything further 5o be concerned with...

Sounds like a phase. My DD is 3.5 and once something sets her off there is no going back. Cries like a large infant. I just leave her alone and let her calm herself down.
Was he in preschool during the school year? If he was fine there he may just be adjusting to being home for the summer.

Mine was (is) often the same. 4 is fun lol
What made me feel better was that I typically see 4-5 posts a day in various mom groups lamenting 4-5 year olds. I’m pretty sure it’s the age.

I think it is the age, but it does not hurt to call your child's pediatrician and ask for a consult. They see hundreds of children and know what to look for far better than our anecdotal behavior evidence.

I think it is the age. My son was terrible all last summer when he was 4. I hated taking him places. He’d fight me whenever we needed to leave somewhere. Kicking, screaming, etc. he turned 4 years, 5 months and he started acting normal again. He’s now 5 years old and most days are okay, but if he’s overtired, he’s a beast!!!

You "enabled" this behavior by giving birth to him 4 years ago....
All of us with DC older than 4 can all empathize. Not every kid goes through this, but a huge percentage do. They make the "terrible twos" and "even worse threes" seem like a cake walk....
They almost always grow out of it. Like with everything, there aren't absolutes, but most likely, he'll grow out of it in the next few months. They are usually humans again before or around 5.
I'm guessing that your 7yo wasn't this bad at 4?
Having a 2nd one at 4yo is different than having your first at 4yo.

just a phase (i hope!). DD has been doing this too... Since i'm home for the summer, I've been more strict about "naps" so I can have some peace for an hour lol. She doesn't always sleep, but she knows she has to sit quietly in her bed for an hour or so
