Help me decide...vacation related

DH and I are invited to a wedding in South Beach in June. DD will be 2 1/2 and DS will be 1. We have a choice of bringing them and my mom OR leaving them home (in my house) with my mom and MIL. They will both stay over and care for them together.

I know it will be "more fun" to just go alone with DH BUT I have never left them (except for being in the hospital to give birth to DS and being readmitted days after) and I'm not sure I want to. I feel like I won't have fun because I will miss them and worry about them. I know they will be in good hands with my mom and mil for 4 days, but I'm so anxious about it.

Then we can bring them but it's such a hassle at that age and the extra expense of bringing 2 kids and my momChat Icon If it was Disney that's one thing, but this will just be staying at the resort where the wedding is.

What would you do?

No seriously, I'd leave them home b/c I think it would just be easier and more cost effective to do it that way. Sure you will miss them, but you will also get to have a little getaway with you and DH!Chat Icon

Leave them home!! You have someone watching them in your own home that you trust!! And I think you will enjoy the trip and the wedding sooo much better without them.

Go and enjoy yourselves...alone. I'm sure your mom and MIL will take good care of them.

Are you kidding, just give my mom an excuse to spend 4 days with DS and she'd jump at the chance.

I say, leave them home! It will be tough for about 5 minutes but you will have a great time! They will be in good hands and their schedules won't be disrupted.Chat Icon Chat Icon

OMG PIMP!!!!!!!!!!

But, don't ask me for advice. Because I am the one with a 6 month old who still hasn't left him home with a babysitter (family or non family). Chat Icon

Re: Help me decide...vacation related

It seems to me that either way you will be a bit concerned - either over the expense of transporting everyone to the wedding (and then the kids being cooped up in a hotel with your mom) OR leaving them behind.

Might as well leave them behind and hope to be able to enjoy a mini vacation. When will you have this opportunity again?? (4 days alone with DH with no kids??)

Re: Help me decide...vacation related

I would leave them home. It's only 4 days and you know they are in their own home with your mom and MIL. Then you can relax a little and enjoy your mini vacay!!

Re: Help me decide...vacation related

If your mom and MIL are willing to take care of them the GO BY YOURSELF!!!! You are nuts to even consider taking them. I would go in a heart beat. I wish I could go to south beach w/o kids.

Have fun and enjoy yourself. Yes, you will miss them but you need alone time with Steve.

I understand why you feel a bit "guilty" for leaving, but seriously, I would jump at the opportunity. Not only will you and DH have a blast, you will set the stage for future getaways too. If you're mom and MIL are willing to do, then you should totally go for it.

Re: Help me decide...vacation related

I left DD#1 home to go on vacation when she just turned 1, I was so nervous and felt bullied into by my friends and family. I cried while I was in the airport and on the plane. Once I was there though, I was so glad I went and had SO MUCH FUN! It was the best thing I did, it broke me of my crazy irrational 1st time mom thing.

ITA -- and they will not be disrupted by the travel. If $$ were not an issue maybe I'd say bring them all. But in this case, yup home is good.

If you are really nervous about missing them, what about cutting it a day shorter?

Go without them!

DH and I just went to a wedding in the Caribbean, I was so nervous about leaving DS and although I missed him, it was great to have time with just DH.

After taking a vacation with him, I realize how important it is to have that time and enjoy each other. Your kids will be fine and you will feel rejuvenated when you get back!

Re: Help me decide...vacation related

I'd be planning a trip for 2 if I were you. As PP said, when will you ever have an opportunity to just enjoy time with your husband. It'll be a chance for the two of you to reconnect & just live it up! Plus, you know that your children will be in great hands!

Definitely leave them home. It'll be great for you and DH to have some quality time together, and it'll also be so nice for your mom and MIL to spend that time with your DC.

You WILL miss the kids like crazy, but you'll be back home before you know it! Chat Icon
