Help me pick a wedding venue!
I just got engaged 3 days ago and we're looking to get married this June. I know, I'm nuts This is my second marriage but FH's first. We want a casual place but nice enough for a wedding. I'm trying to steer clear of catering halls, but it seems to be all I find.
Criteria:
- Hold about 90 people - Room for a ceremony - Saturday or Sunday evening - Room for a dancefloor and dj - would love an outdoor covered space, or a room with big windows so you feel outside - not going to break the bank...we're paying for it ourselves. - no stairs...must all be on one level...my grandparents don't do steps well
i basically want it to feel like a party, celebration...not a fancy wedding. If I could do a BBQ catered backyard wedding with a DJ I would do that! But I don't have the space in my backyard for 90 people. :(
Right now I have meetings set up for Cottage at Milleridge, Cottage at East Wind and Snapper Inn.
help!
****************** ETA...You guys are seriously awesome for all your suggestions!!! I have a very particular idea in mind so it's hard to find the venue for it.
ok ladies!! thank you for all your well wishes and suggestions! Here is the list i'm going on:
I have appts with these:
Cottage of Milleridge Cottage at East Wind Snapper Inn Captain Bills
Waiting to hear back from:
Blue in Bellport The Shandon Court Nassau Country Museum of Art
Ones that have been suggested but unfortunately are out (to make it easier for you guys). I really did look at all of these but for one reason or another I had to cross it off:
Westbury Manor Harbor Club at Prime Bridgeview WSCC Timber Point Sunken Meadow Fox Hollow Honu The View Smithtown Landing Stonebridge Three Village Inn Fat Fish Irish Coffee Pub Fisherman's Catch Thatched cottage Vineyards Coindre Hall Crescent Beach Club The Oldfield Club hallockville museum farm Queens county farm Miller Place Surf Club Sea Cliff Manor Swan Club Mill Pond Country Club trumpets on the bay bourne mansion North Ritz club Riviera Stewart Manor Country Club Miller Place Inn Larkfield Manor New Hyde Park Inn View Restaurant at Crab Meadow Waterview Club Crestwood Manor Antionettes

Help me pick a wedding venue!
I got married at Fox Hollow in their cocktail hour room. I think it's called The Winter Garden Pavillion. The roof is entirely sky lights, there is a bar, and plenty of room for a DJ. It wasn't all that expensive since it was their smallest room!
Congrats!

Congrats!
My brother and sister in law had a destination wedding with a reception when they got home at the West Sayville Golf Course. Lovely views of the water. It was small and intimate but there was a dance floor etc.

Timber Point - had my wedding here and 4+ years later, people still tell me how beautiful it was and how delicious the food was. Doesn't have that catering hall vibe IMO. Outdoor space that's partially covered.
Also West Sayville CC.
ETA: It poured the night of my wedding and people were still able to go outside under the awning.

Congrats!!
Maybe you should look at larger restaurants if you want less of a catering hall feel? I know someone who had their wedding a Honu in Huntington recently.

Re: Help me pick a wedding venue!
thanks guys!
my friend got married in that room at Fox Hollow...I forgot all about that! it was beautiful.
I did contact The View and I've been waiting for a response.
I'm going to look at WSCC. I think I looked at Timber but it may have been out of my price range? I have to check again.
I would like a restaurant that meets my criteria but I haven't found one other than the Snapper Inn. I'll check out Honu...i love the food there!

It was 4 years ago so I don't know how their prices are but they were by far the least expensive. They may also be more willing to negotiate since June is only a few months away. They were an absolute pleasure to work with.

First off Congrats!!!
Secondly, I had my reception at the Winter Garden Pavilion too and LOVED it!! I loved that it was a little different than your standard catering hall banquet room. So many people commented on how much they liked the venue as well. And Fox Hollow was fantastic to deal with!

Try Captain Bills in Bay Shore. I was there recently and was thinking how lovely it would be for a more casual wedding

Re: Help me pick a wedding venue!
trust me, try their food and you'll get over it!
Also, I had my e-party at the West Sayville CC and while that was almost 9 years ago they were very reasonably priced.

Re: Help me pick a wedding venue!
My friend had her bridal shower at Fisherman's Catch (I think that is the name). Anyway, I'm not sure how many people they can accommodate but I thought it was nice. The room she had it in had these huge windows looking out to towards the water. There was also a small outdoor area too.

Have you check out the wineries? You can have the party atmosphere with a covered outdoor reception.

Congrats!
For my second marriage we got married at the Three Village Inn. It was wonderful. Took pictures in the village and my guests loved it. We had about 100 people.

The Bayview House is where they hold larger events, like weddings. They have smaller rooms in the main restaurant too.
Fat Fish would be beautiful for a casual wedding, with awesome outdoor space and views. Def don't rule it out bc of the name!
My wedding was over 5 years ago at Timber Point, but we also seriously considered Capt Bill's, Snapper Inn, and The View. I'm sure things have changed, but I can give you info on what I remember from back then if you want. Congrats!

my bridal shower for my first wedding was there...so that's obviously out.

Had my wedding here and loved everything about it! (Only thing is, they only do 1 wedding per week - on Sat afternoons. So if you want any other time, it wouldn't work for you)
And Congrats!
(Feel free to FM me if you have any Q's!)

Its a restaurant with a private room for parties. To me, it didnt really have that "catering hall" feel. I loved the giant windows looking out on the water. And the food is excellent.
Congrats and happy planning!
