HELP PLEASE: Does anyone else have an 8 month old who still does not STTN?
Things have gone horribly wrong. Since 4 months old, my good sleeper is no longer a good sleeper. She goes down around 7pm and wakes up at 7am, but will wake up 1-3 times per night.
She will eat if you feed her, but she is not hungry. The pacifier will work sometimes but not always. When she wakes up, she is screaming almost like she had a bad dream.
Should I just let her CIO at this point? We have been going in and trying to soothe her, but she is still waking. In fact, she will be screaming and then she sees my husband and she will start smiling.
I really need help. I feel embarrassed that this is still going on!

Don't be embarrassed!
I would do CIO if you're comfortable with that. It worked like a CHARM for us!
Loey went from waking up 8-10+ times/night to STTN without waking up at all!

Re: HELP PLEASE: Does anyone else have an 8 month old who still does not STTN?
I had the same thing happen - except starting at 3 months.
We did CIO at 8 months and it helped tremendously. DS would still wake but, was able to be comforted with a back pat or put himself back down.
Unfortunately, it becomes undone easily with teething and sickness so at 11 1/2 mos, we're getting ready to start again (we were ready to do it last weekend but, DS came down with chicken pox).

Sounds almost exactly like what I'm going through with my 6 month DS (except he wakes more often). I'm not a CIO mom so I just read the No Cry Sleep Solution and am giving that a try.

Re: HELP PLEASE: Does anyone else have an 8 month old who still does not STTN?
My oldest son didn't start STTN until around 9 months. I tried CIO but couldn't do it...tried again at 12 months and we had success.
My little guy started around 2 months but not consistently. Now at 8 months majority of nights he sleeps through but when he is going through something he will wake 1 - 2 times. This week he has a double ear infection so he has been waking around 3 am every morning. Once he's better - and if he continues to wake - we will CIO.

Re: HELP PLEASE: Does anyone else have an 8 month old who still does not STTN?
This is exactly what's going on with my 9 month old. She was sleeping so well then one night it all stopped. She wakes up SCREAMING, like murderous screams. I let her cry but she will just continue to cry for hours. So that's not working anymore. I give her a bottle. That was working for a while, now she doesn't want that. Just stands there screaming. Last night i had to pick her up for a min, put her down with a bottle and she finally passed out.
IDK what to do either!

Re: HELP PLEASE: Does anyone else have an 8 month old who still does not STTN?
My son is going to be 1 next week. He still wakes anywhere from 3-6 times per night depending on teething, milestones, etc. We are not a CIO family. I tried several gentler solutions, but they didn't work. Although we're zombified some days, we've come to understand that we need to attend to his needs around the clock. I know that someday he will grow out of this.
I really need help. I feel embarrassed that this is still going on! Please don't feel embarrased. Most babies do not sleep through the night. It is more common for them to wake throughout the night and need to be parented than to sleep straight through. When we hear of a child sleeping 10 or so hours straight it's likely that the parents intervened to make that happen. Of course there are the gems out there that are naturally good sleepers, but that's the exception, not the rule. Your 8 mo. old's behavior is the norm.....exhausting and sometimes frustrating...but totally normal.

Re: HELP PLEASE: Does anyone else have an 8 month old who still does not STTN?
no need at alllll to feel embarrassed!!!!
my first daughter was a great sleeper until 3.5 months. then we had a very hard time, mostly in getting her to fall asleep. to this day, there are some times she just needs to cry for a little while before going to bed. (she's like me. even when im tired, sometimes i resist going to bed. whenever dh says let's go to bed, i pout a little) from about 9-10 months on, once she fell asleep, she did sleep through the night.
my second daughter went to sleep much easier, and liked her crib much better, but she woke up during the night until about 9 months. (she's 10.5 mths now) she still wakes every now and then, but i dont get her because she will cry for a few minutes and fall back asleep. if it goes on longer or it's more intense, i know she either pooped or isnt feeling well.

Re: HELP PLEASE: Does anyone else have an 8 month old who still does not STTN?
I had a 9 month old that did not sttn until last week- he took an hour to "put down" and then woke up 3-4 times during the night, until eventually I would bring him into bed from exhaustion. We decided to do CIO when even bringing him into the bed stopped working (that's when I was finally convinced that "missing mommy" was not the problem)
CIO took us 3 days with a TOTAL of about 20 mins crying.
Last night he went down around 8:30 and slept until 8 this morning. I feel like a different person these days!

Mine wasn't until 15 months. Try the CIO again. If she is smiling when seeing dh, she is playing you guys. I know, ds would do the same thing. He thought it was a riot.

Re: HELP PLEASE: Does anyone else have an 8 month old who still does not STTN?
What has saves us is having a "lovey".
My older DS (almost 3) still naps and sleeps at night with his ragged lovey. I gave it to him at 6 months, and whenever he woke up at night due to teething, being sick, etc. I would watch him on the monitor chew it and soothe himself back to sleep. I wash it regularly and have back-up lookalikes- just in case!
My second baby is now 7 months. Last month I started giving him a small monkey when he took his last bottle and when he naps and sleeps. He also wakes up at night sometimes and uses it to soothe himself.

Re: HELP PLEASE: Does anyone else have an 8 month old who still does not STTN?
DS never STTN until he was 10.5 months old and started daycare. He was sooo overtired it forced him to sleep at night. I would have never suggested less naps to anyone because "sleep begets sleep" as they say... but maybe your DC is like mine. ??? It's exhausting, but I'd def. try that.
We also started CIO for MOTN wakings because I was still nursing 1-2xs per night at 9 months. The ped told me I didn't have to, so that was enough for me to stop and hope he would sleep. I've been there, but it will happen soon!

Re: HELP PLEASE: Does anyone else have an 8 month old who still does not STTN?
Thanks for all of the advice! It certainly seems like a lot of babies START STTN at 9 months. So maybe she just isn't ready yet. Regardless, I am going to try and hang in there!

Re: HELP PLEASE: Does anyone else have an 8 month old who still does not STTN?
My DS just turned 9 months and started STTN about a month ago. It's still not completely consistent, but it's much better. We did need to resort to CIO to get here, so as long as you're up for it, I say give it a go.

DD is 7 months and just started STTN this past week. She too has a double ear infection so I was shocked since she has been sick. I hope it stays this way.
