i have been complaining left and right about this everywhere. We can continue to give tax cuts to those who have the most deductions in the world but we can't manage to assist those who heroically went into a damn war zone. You think the muslim terrorist did an injustice/crime against humanity well those bastards who voted against this are in the same boat as them in my eyes.

sometimes humanity seriously disappoints me. I can't even begin to imagine actually having the audacity to vote no to this plan. it's literally one of the saddest moments. is this really how we repay first responders? those who ran into buildings that were blazing on fire from a terrorist attack? all those people who gave their lives and still continue to do so... and some even are sick because they were told the air was "safe"... they were LIED to and now they are just being raped. sorry... but that's my feelings on it.
I did hear they plan on sitting outside capital hill was it (?) in protest. it's astonishing that it was actually voted NO... perhaps those who voted no should be the ones to get sick like the first responders.

There was talk on the news before that it will go up for vote again after the bill for Unemployment benefits is changed. (I think that is the jist of what they were saying)
I find it unbelievable. It makes me so sad that people who did what most of us would be too scared / traumatized / weak etc... to do ourselves. They need us now and we should really be taking care of our heroes.

This make me so angry!!! Mu Uncle who was forced to retire after 9-11. Now he can barely breathe takes all these medications..Its so sad. I think they call is condition 9-11 Syndrome. So the GOP can really go screw themselves..These Heros deserve everything..I pray for them all and hope things change at the next vote!!

Why does everyone think the bush tax cuts only apply to the wealthy?

The reason why the GOP voted against the 9/11 benefits is because the DEMOCRATS voted against extending the Bush era tax cuts, something OUR DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT was going to support.
The bush tax cuts lower taxes for EVERYONE. Not just the wealthy. Yet the idiot democrats in congress want to tax the s**t out of everybody.
Take a look at the link I provided above and explain to me how those tax cuts ONLY apply to the wealthy. Those tax cuts reduce taxes for EVERY income bracket.
It's a shame the 9/11 heroes are getting screwed. But the Democrats have themselves to blame for this one.
I can't wait till the 2012 elections which will pretty much guarantee the GOP will have both the house and the senate. The Democrats have had their chance since 2008 and they have done absolutely nothing (except forcing healthcare reform down our throats).

It's a shame the GOP doesn't have a strong enough candidate to boot Obama on his azz in 2012. I am so sick of looking at him now. Even Obama now knows the Democrats screwed up BIGTIME that he now has to lean more towards the middle (hence supporting the Bush era tax cuts).

In the House, it was attached to the tax cut provisions. But in the Senate, it was the stand-alone 9/11 health bill that was voted down. No add ons or other non-germane amendments.

Agreed! I was hoping for a change when the Dems took office.. now I'm sitting here  All the Dems scream about is tax the wealthy.. except for a handful of people.. everyone else is working their aZZ off for the moola they get..

This is akin to the kid in the playground stamping hid feet saying "I know you are but what am I" wah, wah, wah. Seriously! The GOP is taking a stand on people paying more $$ on taxes and punishing ACTUAL PEOPLE WITH HEALTH ISSUES BECAUSE THEY TRIED TO DO SOMETHING GOOD. Sounds like a fair exchange to me

I'm sorry, but I need to respond to this one.
When is the GOP going to stand up and do the right thing on this one? Tit-for-tat is not acceptable when trying to assist the first responders who spent months inhaling toxins and did everyone in this nation a favor by serving down there.
Gillibrand did the right thing in bringing the bill to the floor without attaching it to an appropriations bill or the tax cut provision. The 9/11 bill, as with all others, deserve to go to the floor of the Senate and be voted on based on it's OWN merit.
For the GOP to vote down THIS bill b/c of their opinion on ANOTHER issue, is not only morally reprehensible, it is HYPOCRYTICAL.
How many times have we heard McConnell and Kyl and the other GOP senators wail and moan about attaching non-germane amendments to approps bills and other pieces of legislation??
ENOUGH of this nonsense tit-for-tat.
Stand up, do the right thing and LEAD!
And that goes for the Dems too.
But on this one, the blame lays squarely at the feet of the GOP in the Senate.
