Re: "HEY 9/11 HEROES. GO EFF YOURSELVES!" Sincerely, the GOP.
I have always felt that our country does a huge disservice to our veterans. Now it seems they are doing the same to the 9/11 workers.
At the end of the day, the government simply does not have the money to fund all these programs. The US deficit is growing exponentially and the politicians say they are going to lower it but yet we continually grow it. The government needs to find a way to balance the budget and no matter what they decide to cut or not approve, some group of people are going to be screaming bloody murder.
Personally I'd MUCH prefer the 9/11 workers to get what they deserve and not have unemployment benefits extended. That is JMO but I'm sure that wouldn't be popular either.

This post offends me in so many ways. Of course it's horrible that the 9/11 responders don't get whatever care they need. They should get it. But....guess what? Republicans aren't responsible for all the problems in this world! Neither are wealthy people. Guess what else? Paying more taxes to a government that throws them away on crap doesn't solve all the problems in the world either! I am SO SICK of it being politically incorrect to be a Republican.
make sure you remember how offended you are right now when you find yourself in need of a first responder. Then spit in their face AFTER they help you. Then you'll be following along the pretty footprints of your cherished republican party
I understand that you are upset by the vote and I do sincerely wish that the volunteers get the medical help they deserve. However, I think that was a really inappropriate and nasty response to the above poster who only expressed her opinion.
People are allowed to disagree without having it turn nasty. I know this is very personal for you but attacking other posters for expressing opinions isn't the way to go IMO.
I agree
ITA! So rude and unnecessary!

ETA: To the OP, I think it stinks that 9/11 responders did not get assistance and think it's amazing that you volunteered. I hate politics for reasons like this.
Thank you
I understand there are 2 different issues going on here. Tax issue and Zadroga.
Again, what baffles me is how anyone could be OK with the legitimacy/enactment of Zadroga being dependent on the outcome of tax issues.
It's a sad day in this nation where people's health is being used as a bargaining chip
ITTTTA and unfortunately most Americans have watched this happen over the years. It hits home now because this bill is so close to NY'ers hearts. Even people with the highest standards in Washington cannot fight the game. It must be played and thats all there is to it......

Sometimes the government just needs to stop pandering and do what is right.
Sigh. It is a dream.

WHEN DID WE BECOME SO RELIENT ON THE GOVERMENT TO SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS!!!!!!!
Um, what do you think government IS? Why do you think we pay taxes or perform civic duties? We are essentially pooling resources to create and maintain the services we need to function as a civilized society.

Finally, I don't know who jammed anything down your throat regarding healthcare legislation. As I recall, it was voted on by a majority of our duly elected representatives. If that's jamming than so be it. ANd, for the record, most of the people I know are from NY and every one of them supported the bill. So, I think each of our perspectives may be clouded by who we associate with, to some extent.
Obamacare passed thru because of dirty Chicago style politics. They bribed those against it with sweetheart deals for their states, Ie - extra $$$. Told democrats they wouldn't give them campaign funds for their reelections and arm twisted the get it passed even though over 60% of the country was against this particular bill. I think the Nov elections prove that Americans are unhappy with the way the Dems were running things.
I think that the Nov. elections proved that Americans are unhappy with the economy, above all else. If things don't change in the next two years (which I doubt they will), then the tides will turn again. Its a vicious cycle.

I am not sure why you're "offended in so many ways" by the OP. Republicans have admitted that they blocked the bill until the tax cut bill is passed and OP is, in my view, properly upset with it. Perhaps you are upset with some of the other comments made here but OP's post taking the GOP to task for their behavior on particular issue is a fair criticism.
Yes, agreed - I am upset with some of the other comments to this topic, not the OP.

Let me start off by saying that I am neither a Republican or a Democrat.
I am a HUMAN.
Both political parties are to blame for the mess we're in now. Yes, the Obama admin is cleaning up the mess left by the Bush admin. However, part of the subprime mortgage collapse and the war on terror can be linked directly to Clinton and his deregulation of the banking industry and his failure to respond with force to the bombings on the US Embassy and the USS Cole. (I say this as a firm Clinton supporter.)
We need to get rid of both parties and start over - neither side delivers what they promise.
Don't forget the first WTC attack.
Many people want to blame Bush for what happened on 9.11, saying it happened on "his watch". However it was good ole' Bill Clinton that really allowed the terrorists to run amuck and plan that brutal attack. People say Bush was fighting the wrong war in Iraq. Well Clinton had absolutely ZERO response to any of those attacks under his watch.
I happen to like Bill Clinton but I have to agree with this.

I think the blame game excuse is getting old. If Bush was cleaning up Clinton's mess, Clinton was cleaning up Bush Sr.'s mess and so on and so forth.

That was the point...there is no one person to blame. We can keep blaming the person before for the mess.

Yeah I was agreeing with you on that point It's such a tiresome argument and there's way too much fingerpointing on the federal level; it is so counterproductive to doing what they are elected to do. It is disheartening. Politicians seem to be way too cynical and jaded that they only care about their own gain rather than doing what is right.

Then I apologize (again) for my harsh words to you. I thought (as did others) that your offense was with my original post. I took your "guess what's" as a personal attack and I reacted. Clearly, this is quite emotional for me and I have kept my distance since I didn't like how some were preying on those emotions.
Again, I sincerely apologize for misunderstanding you and reacting harshly.
