high FSH this month ...feeling crushed..
So this would be my first cycle with my RE....had a miscarriage in Feb then my cycke this month was reallllly light - i called they said it was ok to start a cycle they called in my meds bravelle and did the CD 3 bldwork and sono - just got the call from my Dr that my FSH was 18.2 AND MY e2 was 79. imy AFC was lower then last month too....so I guess I wont have to worry about how to pay for the injectibles this month.....so my questions are...
1. has this happened to anyone else where it was too high one month but better in another month?
2. he also said I should stick with clomid IUI for this month - but everything I am readding about clomid at 40 is throwing me off -
I am crushed I hope someone with a high fsh level has some hope for me.....

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I believe FSH can fluctuate from month to month. Is it possible that your hormones are still out of whack from the miscarriage. My loss was earlier in my pregnancy than yours (if I remember correctly) and I feel like my hormones are crazy. We've decided to wait until probably June or July to try another cycle. My RE wants me on OCP for 6 weeks before we do another cycle, so I don't think I'll even have to do day 3 bloodwork, but who knows.
If you're concerned about the Clomid, you should ask your RE why he's recommending it. And then you can better weigh the pros and cons.

Re: high FSH this month ...feeling crushed..
I sorry, I know how hard this can be.
My first month being monitored my FSH was 19.2 my insurance would not cover anything over 19. I decided to start doing supplements and by the second month my levels went to 10.5, then 7 then back up to an 8. So yes, it can fluctuate by month.
I don't know if the supplements had anything to do with it because there are no office studies. Don't get down on yourself it does change.

Yes, I am on a forced break due to my high FSH. Background: MY FSH was high in January- 18.2 and cycle was cancelled. Next month- with acupuncture 1-2x week, I got down to an 8- lowest ever- and did a 1/2 cycle- couldnt do a full one bc I was on an aggressive plan which backfired and fried my eggs. wouldnt even fertilize. waited few weeks to next cycle- went in for CD3 blood sono- boom FSH back up to 19 so no go. Im using this time to do acupunture 2x week steadily. My next cycle is May hopefully- will be away during April cycle. I was upset as well but it does fluctuate.
I am crushed I hope someone with a high fsh level has some hope for me.....

Re: high FSH this month ...feeling crushed..
FSH does fluctuate from cycle to cycle, but once it spikes, you've got an indicator that reserve is an issue. There has been a lot of research done on patients to see if waiting for FSH to drop back down would improve quality/response, and it doesn't. In fact, the high FSH means that time is of the essence, so waiting out cycles based on FSH alone is unwise.
What might make you want to wait it out is the elevated E2. That means your body has already selected a dominant follicle (early) and it's starting to produce estradiol. If you're expecting even growth across lots of juicy follicles, that might get in the way.
I'm a (premature) DOR girl myself, so I can empathize with how hard it is to hear those numbers, but at least they help you make the best decisions you can about treatment plan.
