Homeowners insurance - silly question, I am sure.
Apologize in advance with this question...it may be a dumb one.
My goal is to never have to use my home owners insurance unless something drastic happens..but I do know they can cover things you never would have thought of.
Are fences covered under the policies generally?
During the giant snowstorm, the fence fell down in the front. It was old to begin with, and I'm not looking anyone to pay for a new fence or something (as I get it was mother nature's fault) but there is some debris and such and need to be cleaned up.
I tried moving it back up into a standing position and seeing how sturdy it was..and I will definitely need help removing it.
Anyone have any info on this?

I don't think it would be covered but either way you don't want to put a claim for something like that, it would make your rates go up etc...

it's covered but your deductible may be high and it may not be worth it.

interesting....I really wouldn't, because I feel this is part of being a homeowner and the fence is old anyway, but it is good to know for the future, I guess.
Because if I invest in one of those $$$$ PVC fences and something happens to it....I think I will cry.

if you were to put a claim in for the old fence, the ins co would issue you a check less depreciation. It could likely be more than 50-60% depreciation. The point being, is not to make you better off than you were initially, with the old fence.
But if you installed a new pvc fence, and it got destroyed shortly thereafter, there would likely be minimal to no depreciation.

You are better off carrying a VERY high deductible on your insurance. I have a $5000 deductible and the money I save every year pays for incidentals like this.

When you do decide to purchase the new fence, they will remove the old one, for a fee of course. You might want to just wait for them to do it since I think I recall you looking to have one put in soon.
