Yes, you would throw it yourself. You're welcoming people to your new home. You can have it as fancy or not as you want. I've been to ones that are BBQs. I've been to ones that have had a full catered dinner. It's really up to you!

Re: house warming ?

We did an "open house". People were in and out most of the day. We served hero, finger foods and appetizers. Nothing too formal or fancy.

Re: house warming ?

We had a house warming about 7 months after we moved in Chat Icon but only because we were doing kitchen renovation and didn't want to officially show it off to everyone until after that was complete. Of course most of our friends came over before then, but it was the 'official' house warming where we invited both family/friends etc. and gave everyone tours that hadn't been there.

Its a way for you guys to welcome everyone to your new place, and show off what you've done. Usually most guests will bring you a small gift for your new place. People are probably asking you because they want to get you a housewarming gift and want to know if they should wait until the party, or give it to you now.

We supplied all the food/alcohol and had it on a Saturday night. i've been to ones that were more open house and were all day, some that were bbq's etc. But, it's really up to you on what size or level of party you want to do (if you even do one at all)

Re: house warming ?

We had one. It was a casual, all-day open house. We had a ton of friends and family in and out all day. DH BBQed, but although everyone enjoyed the food, he was stuck behind the grill all day. We had tons of food: pasta salad, potato salad, etc., and tons of drinks.

I truly loved our open house. It was wonderful to have our home filled with such love and fun. We have a big yard, and it was full of people all day.
