Re: How are we supposed to live????

The oil reserves are for when/if we have to go completely on our own. Depleting them would be placing ourselves at the mercy of the Middle Eastern countries who both have oil and harbor terrorists. Again, NEVER one reason for everything and it's very important that people look at the whole picture.
As for your ETA, if it truly were Bush, the reasonable costs of living indices would have to be out of the country, no? I'm pretty sure that Florida has the same President we do in NY, thus furthering the idea that whoever is in the presidency is not God and there are about a billion factors to consider when it comes to something like this.
I only have a minute to respond, as I am about to walk a mile back to the train station for my evening commute, but I did want to respond.
The oil reserves have been tapped before to relieve gas prices. Maybe ideally they should be kept for situations like the one you described, but that certainly has not been the case in the past. I'll also mention that a good deal of the oil we use in the USA comes from South America. Yes, they have oil too.
As to my comment about lower cost of living in other states, that had *nothing* to do with my argument about Bush. The economy *is* suffering everywhere in the country, but the cost of living was higher in New York to begin with, and had been for a LONG time. And while everyone in the US is under one President, individual states' governors and governments have a great deal of power to affect local economy.
But hold on... The President *Isn't* G-d?! Someone ought to tell him that, as he runs around spouting off that Gays are immoral, saying that Jesus Himself chose him for this position, that he has a Divine Mandate to send his armies around the world murdering innocent civilians. I know we're out to find terrorists but I think there's a bit of throwing out the baby with the bathwater going on.
In all seriousness, I don't think the President is all-powerful, nor should he be. I also don't think that he should be expected to wave a magic wand and just make it better. But I do think he should attempt to do something. He does Nothing. Employment does occasionally drop, and throughout history, our Presidents have responded to this by creating jobs. Bush Cut Jobs. We were attacked by Osama Bin Laden. We've been going after Saddam Hussein, simply because they are of similar ethnicity.
I must ask you What DO you hold the President accountable for? If not the economy, if not unemployment, if not education, if not social services, if not COMMON SENSE or Intelligence- What On Earth Is He Accountable For?
Why Bother Having a President at all if we can't look to him for answers?

Take the bus.
Some of us can't
That's fine and totally understandable. But there are plenty of families out there who can control their pumping of gas into two, three cars. (I'm not saying I'm not guilty of this as well.) But, I see it all too often on the highways, one person in every single car. It's unnecessary. I've been taking the bus because I can. Something has to be done. We need to conserve where and when we can.
not everyone can take a bus my husband travels 300 miles a day for work - from town to town and state to state how can you get buses for all this while carrying 200 lbs of cargo with you .... not happening

Maybe this is why our president only has an approval rating of 34%? And why isn't the media reporting about that more and not the latest fluff story... aka Runaway Bride.
But what is there to report on? What does he do, besides vacation?
The media no longer practices the dying art of journalism. They are lazy and don't uncover stories anymore. They just read press releases and never investigate the validity of them. AFter paying off a huge deficit racked up in the 1980's, Bush has created a deficit that our children's children's children will be paying off, finacially and with their own lives if this war continues. You would think that with a president with such a low approval rating the media would be up in arms. Hmmmmm... let's see why not? His former college buddy is the President of Clearchannel communications the largest media conglomerate in the country. So his buddy owns more TV stations, radio, billboards etc... no wonder why the media isn't saying anything negative against a president with such a low approval rating.
We spend way too much time in this nation breeding complacency and stupidity. Recent research shows that the readership of Time, Newsweek and The Economist are all way down while the tabloid press is up. More people are concerned about Brad and Jen and how Jessica Simpson got into her Daisy Dukes than the blatantly false intellegent reports quoted in the Downing Street memos. Carl Rove? Please... in almost any other time in history he would have been accused of treason for crimes against the American people.
Cost of living is skyrocketing for us (and the future we worked so hard to give our children is eroding) and our fellow country men and women are dying and/or are maimed by the THOUSANDS because Bush was upset that Saddham tried to kill his daddy three separate times in the 80's. Just to bring it close to home... do you realize that Brentwood HS now has at least 5 recent alumni dead from this war? So many smaller towns in the south and midwest have been devistated by the loss of dozens of men and women fighting over in Iraq.
He has some nerve being on vacation when our fellow citizens are involved in a backdoor draft for a war that has no exit strategy. He definitely has no plans for our economy because he doesn't care. $3 a gallon is not a rich man's problem... it's his celebration because he has $$$$ in oil.
Now that I'm all worked up I have to go to sleep. Tomorrow is another day.
well said

Our people should not have to sit on a roof for 2 days to be rescued because we dont have enough of OUR OWN military to help.
We help every other country with their disasters. Where is our help?
Why is the same gas that was in my local stations tanks all week nearly $1/gallon more than yesterday?
Why are we spending $700 per day PER US CITIZEN to fund this war??

Re: How are we supposed to live????
Hubby and I were just discussing the gas prices this morning.
We both have cars and have absolutly no way to car pool with anyone from our jobs. Everyone he works with lives in neighborhoods close to the airport. I have 2 people I work with who live in my area however they work different shifts then me. I would have to come in early with them and they would be forced to stay late and wait for me. Not really fair.
We cant even car pool together because he and I work completely different schedules not to mention he works 51 miles north and I work 31 miles south.
Buses and trains do not happen where I live. Their are absolutly no subways and you need a car to get to work. Buses run once an hour and have very limited service and stops.
All our hard earned money is going to putting gas in the cars. IT *****!!!
Pretty soon I think I'll be seeing bicycle's on I-75
