I also have heated mats and part of my sidewalk, so some of it melts with the flip of a switch.

Heated mats? Link please?

I use the HeatTrak brand. Not cheap, but I'm getting to tired of shoveling, so for me, it's worth it. Chat Icon

I have one of the big mats at the top of my front deck, and one for each of the steps.

I also embedded the heated wire in the paver patio and steps that I built. With these two methods, I always have clear steps from the driveway up to the front door, without any shoveling. I didn't bother getting any automated detector system to turn on the mats automatically. I just have them on a manual switch for now.

I'll have to look into this. Thanks so much.

Can Husband be a response Chat Icon

Absolutely. I keep the question as generic and open-ended as possible. Chat Icon
However, in keeping with the topic, your "Household" (DH) uses a method to remove the snow, whether he uses a shovel, snowblower, plow, etc.

This is another topic where the answer doesn't really matter, it's just a way to have a discussion that hopefully doesn't end in arguments... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Dh does all the shoveling, we bought a snow blower at a garage sale but the dingbat waited until 8pm the night it was snowing to try and get it started up. I told him a bunch of times to try but noooooo...so he had to shovel the whole thing out alone. when he came in I almost said it, (I told you so) but I got the death stare from under his icicle laden eyebrows and decided to let it go. Maybe next time he will listen to me, probably not. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Does anyone shovel WITH their DH?

I'd feel like a jerk just sitting there having him do the whole thing while i'm perfectly capable of doing it as well - plus it gets done in half the time!
The only times i didn't ever help were when DS was a baby and i stayed inside with him. Now, we're all out there - DS plays in the snow while we shovel the walkway, driveway and sidewalk.

Before kids I always helped. My 4yo will play out in the snow all day no matter the temperature but my 2yo has a limited tolerance so I usually only go out long enough to snap some pictures of the kids playing. If I took the time to get all geared up to stay out I'd be back inside with my youngest by the time I got started shoveling.

No. I have back issues and I'm extremely out of shape. I feel winded and fear I'll be one of those people you hear about who have a heart attack from shoveling snow because they are so out of shape. Chat Icon

He has a snow thrower so only one person can operate it at a time anyway. I don't think he needs my help pushing it.

If I wasn't married I would absolutely pay someone to do it for me. It would be a necessity.
I don't do physical labor of any kind

Re: How do you clear most of your snow?

DH and I shovel Together. This storm was the first time I didn't because I had a ribecage issue.

He'll shovel before work. Then I'll go out every few hours to clear walkways front and back of house for dogs. Then when he gets home, we'll both go out and tackle the driveway. We have a big driveway so it's a lot of work.

Most of the time, our neighbor with a plow will come and plow out the driveway for us. It's awesome. I love my neighbors.

ETA: this last storm, my driveway only got half covered because of drifts. We both have trucks so we drive right out. My next door neighbor used his snowblower to clear where the plows piled snow up at the edge of our driveway.

Nope and I'm not goign to even make excuses. He bought a snowblower and we have divided duties in our house. He does garbage (half the time), snow and yard work. I do all other "chores".

We shovel. DH and I always shoveled together. We have a fairly small driveway and a walk way.

Dh uses a shovel. We keep talking but we never buy a snowblower. Now that we are moving to FL he will continue to shovel.
