how do you deal with a next Door neighbor putting up a trampoline

My next door neighbors decided it would be a great idea and put up a huge trampoline right next to our joining chain link fence. We just had our whole back yard redone pavers swingset etc. right in our view from our new patio we look at now two screaming kids jumping!! FML right now!! The kicker is we like them but they just don't think or see anything wrong with this!! They have other space this thing could of gone. Why here we have no idea!! I already told my daughter she is not allowed on it and I feel awful but my cousins son broke this ankle on one of those things. Not only that where they placed it isn't even level. How do you deal with this?

we will be putting up a PVC fence but not this year not in the budget. we just spent over $20,000 for pavers, driveway etc

I understand - our backyard adjoins 6 others and we have a chain link fence as well. One of our neighbors have an awesome swingset and an inflatable water slide and DS 1 stands at the fence sometimes like a puppy. The people behind us and next to us both have trampolines.

There is nothing you can do since it's on your property.

I have to say though - after awhile, the kids seem to not even realize it's there and go about their normal activities (DS only stands at the fence now when their new water slide is up - and FIL just ordered one for my kids since he felt bad so that will stop soon).

IMO, their property, their right to do what they want as long as it is fenced.

Can you add the privacy slats if it is chain link? The appeal will wear off and there will be less jumping and less screaming soon Chat Icon

Re: how do you deal with a next store neighbor putting up a trampoline

Move the fencing and landscaping up on the house budget priority list .........

I'm not being snarky. It's really the only thing you can do

I do not think you have any say in where they place the trampoline on their property. I am assuming they did not tell you where you can or cannot put your swingset so I don't think you can expect them to consult with you. If you don't want to see it you can put up a fence.

I agree with this and I have the same situation. Our neighbors have a big swing set and trampoline right on the other side of the fence that divides us.

Yes, this is the same ahole neighbor that the mom hits the panic button on her car alarm at 630am bc "she's in a rush" Chat Icon

Literally within a month of moving in we bought dozens of arbor vitaes and lined the fence with them. They are slowly growing to the point where we won't be able to even see their backyard. Chat Icon

Oh and did I mention their kids are in hs, one a senior and they still play on their stupid swing set.

Yes I agree with all of you and we get along with them I just had to vent my husband and I were watching them yesterday put it up and saying to each other the ground isn't even level where they put it no fence around the front of the house so anyone off the street and come and jump. Its a disaster waiting to happen.

Really? That's life! That's how you explain it. Life isn't fair. Not trying to be rude but I think that's pretty self explanatory.

Kids have to learn that not everything is equal and they won't always get what they want, when they want it ... how they want it. You could speak to your neighbors and kindly ask that they have a conversation with their kids, asking them not to call your daughter over to jump.

But really, this is a perfect teaching example for your children. They will have things that others do not and others will have things they may want but will not get.

Re: how do you deal with a next store neighbor putting up a trampoline

That stinks. I'd revisit my budget and see if there was any possible way I could afford to get the fence in sooner or plant something. Not much else that can be done.

What if a neighbor didn't like looking at your swingset? Just look at it from that perspective.

Its their backyard, they can do what they want.

No they're not. They are 6 and 3. They are showing off a new toy. They're not saying "haha, you can't come and jump!".

I agree with maymama, it's a perfect teaching moment, should your DD ask why she can't have a trampoline too (because she doesn't want a broken neck is the answer!!!).

As for being able to see it... 1st world problems. Maybe it's there temporarily.

I agree 100% I just feel bad not about her not having a trampoline because she does have one inside the issue is her asking and asking and me always telling her no I'm trying to come up with a happy medium but its tough there kids don't listen I do not want them at our house because of it my daughter will ask can ava have a playdate here I say not today and what does ava do goes to her mom Riley mom said I can come over so then I have to stop what I am doing in my yard and say back no Ava I did not say that!! This is everyday all day long!!! Really just venting here I know it must sound really crazy and stupid but I'm not sure how to handle these kids next store!! There parents see nothing wrong with it. Me I correct it with my children if they are eating on there deck do not stand at the fence go play in the yard. etc.

Re: how do you deal with a next store neighbor putting up a trampoline

Our neighbor did this too: a HUGE trampoline.

I was not thrilled & don't allow my kids to do trampoline (though their kids, to their benefit, did invite mine to use it whenever).

We don't have a swingset & both of our neighbors do. The kids have asked if they could use theirs (and are welcome to as per the neighbors)... but I just take them someplace cooler (park) instead.

The solution, honestly, would be to invest in some landscaping. Some shrubs would make your yard look even better & solve the trampoline issue. Our next door trampoline is blocked by a pretty ornamental tree & some bushes we have on the border of our property.

In addition, the trampoline excitement only lasted a week for our neighbors.

At this point, if it were me, I would be having a conversation with the parents ... not the parents through the kids. 6 and 3 year olds don't get it. They only see what they want to see (which in this case is a playdate). Call the parents and just explain, ask that they confirm playdates with you! Chat Icon

Re: how do you deal with a next store neighbor putting up a trampoline

Well, can I ask, why are you always telling her no?

I have a zero tolerance policy w/ trampolines. (HUGE ones that you can fall off of and break your neck, not those little things that are seemingly harmless) I have no issue w/ telling my boys no when it comes to the trampoline. I don't care where we are, who we're with .......it's not happening.

Does she just want to play w/ the neighbor's kids? I don't see what the problem is w/ that - she's in out in the yard, they're out in the yard, trampoline or not, they can still see each other if you don't have a privacy fence, it seems totally normal to me that they'd ask to play w/ each other ............

That's annoying--I agree with trying to do the fence sooner.

I wonder if they put it there because of your swing set. Maybe they got tired of hearing their kids ask to go on that?
