How do you deal with certain questions from people

Easter is coming up and I'm going to see a lot of my family. I know I'll be sad because this is when we would have announced my pregnancy. I'm dreading for anyone to ask me if we want to have another child (I have a 16 month old)
I am okay with talking about my loss but I'm not sure how to approach this, I don't want to make anyone feel bad for asking or for it to seem like I'm looking for some grand sympathy, but I don't want to pretend it didn't happen either. How do you talk to people about it?Chat Icon

I don't think there is any right or wrong way to approach it. If you feel like you are at a place where you are ok to talk about it, then you should do that.
For me, I would be ok with sharing about my loss if anyone were to ask about having a baby and then follow it up with a positive outlook going forward. I think that will help people from feeling bad about asking and show them that while you were obviously sad about it, you are keeping your spirts up. Chat Icon

I don't have any children, but most of my family know about my losses, and my grandmother dealt with IF back when she was trying (took her 3 years to get preggo with her first, then popped out 4 in 5), so I really don't get a lot of questions... I just typically drink .... A lot.

I think you should just answer them in whatever way makes you comfortable. If they don't like your answer, well too bad on them for asking such a personal question.

Re: How do you deal with certain questions from people

We visited my ILs 2 weeks after my later loss to meet my new niece -- trip planned before I was pregnant/before I MC and it was when we planned to announce. I had my DH tell his family about our loss in advance because I wanted them to be sensitive knowing it would be a very difficult time for me (especially under the specific circumstances) and because I didnt want to field nonstop questions about when we would be having another, which is what happened the last time we were around a lot of his family a few months earlier. Nobody acknowledged my loss at all which was a little weird but better than the alternative and they talked about all of my DH pregnant HS friends in front of me which was a bit difficult for me but I drank A LOT of wine and made the best of it.

I mc again the day before thanksgiving. At thanksgiving one of my cousins commented on how amazing my DS was and made a comment along the lines of when are we going to have another? I knew she meant well and didnt have the heart to make her feel bad, so I just said "not yet" and made a big show of gulping down the rest of the wine I was holding

Edit: I have become a lot more open about my losses as time has gone on. But still depends on the person, circumstances in which it comes up, and a lot of other factors

I cant take the i feel bad for you look so i only told my inlaws they are good at changing the subject and i didnt tell anyone else with the exception if my cousin who i tell everything to. She is also pregnant and due soon which i am incredibly happy about so i dont want my family to feel akward talking about her and the baby in front if me. I plan on starting my easter (also was going to be our big reveal day) with a mimosa follwed by lots of deep breaths and prayers to god for what i do have.
