How do you handle a NB crying waking up your older child?
It was complete chaos last night. The baby kept waking DS up and then older DS wouldnt go back to bed.

sound machine?
if you don't have one, you can have a makeshift one, laptop and loop play a waterfall sound, or rain sound...
I got one from this site free, just search for one you like: http://www.freesound.org

I would suggest sound machines in both rooms to help muffle the sound. In time your older child will hopefully be able to sleep through it - and then the baby will STTN which will make things easier.

Sound machines here...both my boys have them in their rooms as well as their humidifiers but in time the older ones become immune to it.

Your older DS will get used to it. DD & DS share a room and now DD doesn't even flinch if DS wakes up in the middle of the night. We do have a CD playing all night on low, so some music or a white noise machine should help too!

Sound machine and also moved his toddler bed to the wall farthest away from the baby's room.
If the baby cried really loud, I brought him downstairs to change his diaper or soothe him.

Definitely get a sound machine for both rooms.
I think the sound machine ssaved us when I gave birth in the playroom and was screaming and Gavin was upstairs sleeping with the sound machine. I swear by sound machines.
