How do you know? Sensory Issue or Phase?

I've noticed lately John has trouble in new places. For instance:

went walked into Bounce U for a party...screamed and clinged to DH..after about 1/2 hour he was ok.

Today first time at long island childrens museum.. he was in his umbrella stroller he was quiet but fine looking at everything... my nephew made a really LOUD BANG sound and he screamed.. but from then on..he was upset and screamed at any noise or different room.

he also wanted to keep his jacket on when he got upset and the canopy over his head!!

Issue or phase?

Personally, I would.say a phase. JJ goes through things similar especially in strange places or strange people. If he is in the stroller, he takes cover under the canopy

Probably a phase. My DS is 2. It takes him a while to warm up to certain new places and new people. At the LICM, he's always been fine. But we went to a bday party at Gymboree last week and it took him about 30 minutes before he would wander off and looked like he was having fun. When he was a little younger (15 onths maybe) he'd cry around new people and places so I def think it's something they grow out of.

If you don't notice anything else that makes you think he has sensory issues it's probably a phase. How old is he? As they get older and closer to the age of 2, they are more aware of their surroundings and things can frighten them, even things that never bothered them before.

I think a phase. DS never did well in new places. Usually places like you brought your DS. He clings to me or DH and is very quite. I was actually really worried about how he acted and had him tested. He is getting much better as he gets older, but is still very shy and tempermental. I'm finally realizing that it is just his personality.
