How do you know when it is time to change formula's? Need advice!
DS will be 3 weeks tomorrow and is EXTREMELY gassy. I started out BF and thought it was me making him gassy so I stuck with formula, Similac Advance, the same I gave DS #1 but it hasn't seemed to help. He does not spit up so I am not concerned about reflux but he is constantly farting and trying to push and look visibly uncomfortable and will cry. And he finishes his bottles he has alot of liquidity poops. I have been using the mylocin drops off and on and dont know if that is helping the problem or making it worse.
Did anyone else have this problem?Should I switch to Similac Sensitive? What is the difference in the formulas?
He is drinking 3 oz. every 2 hours so I was also concerned I was overfeeding him. I wish he would go longer inbetween feedings but he seems stuck on this schedule right now.
ETA: I am currently using Similac Advance which has the new Early Shield formula with probiotics. I mentioned the gassiness to my ped. at DS's 1 week appt. and he did say that most of the formulas have been redone since I had DS 2 years ago with these probiotics and alot of parents are complaining of more spit up, gas, and digestive problems. It is harder on the stomach.

we had similar happen to us & i too was BFing....i put DS on Good Start but had the same result as you...i called the peditrican & they switched us to the Similac Sensitie but RTF.
We saw a difference immediately & now 3 days later we have the baby we brought home from the hospital back...no more gas issues...

Re: How do you know when it is time to change formula's? Need advice!
Similac Advance was terrible for DD. However, we were using powder at the time. Looking back, I should have tried the RTF first. DD was terribly umcomfortable, esp as she consumed more of it. Kicking, pushing, causing herself to spit up from pushing, etc. The gas would keep her up at night. Finally after trying so many things, we we switched to SIm Sensitive powder and DD's gas went away pretty much. Then we switched to Sim Sen RTF and she was even better.
It sound as if you need to try the Sensitive.

i would try something from the enfamil family. my dd had awful gas problems with all similac. and turned out she had problems with all formulas and needed neutramigen. oh and she cannot tolerate powder needs to have RTF. so give enfamil and rtf a try

i would switch to the RTF helps so much with gas, and the sensitive is great, they still sell the reg similac (not the advanced shield), online and in some stores

DS had the same problems on the Similac Advance powder, but did great on the Good Start RTF. I think the RTF made a huge difference, I could never switch to the powder with him even when he got older.

I dont use the powder...I already use the RTF.
Maybe I will try the Similac Sensitive. It has all the same vitamins and what not, right?

How about switching bottles? I switched to Dr. Brown's and that seemed to make a difference.
I hope his tummy is better soon!

The nursery recently switched to the same formula right before I had my DS. My pediatrician said to me in the hospital please switch him as soon as you get home I do not like this new Early Shield formula....She said it was effecting all of the babies in the nursery and they were all putting complaints in. I switched to Good Start as soon as I got home and that did the trick Good Luck
