How Do You Like The Town You Live In?
DH and I are always looking at houses on MLSLI.com. We hope to buy a house next year. I don't know a lot about the towns other than the ones by me. I especially know nothing about the towns in Suffolk. I want to narrow down the towns I like by the time we start looking into houses. I thought I'd ask you ladies about the town you live in.
I'll tell you a little about what we're looking for:
We are laid back and will have 4 or 5 kids eventualy (right now we only have 1).
We'd really like a town where we have around an acre or more of property (I have big dreams for my yard, lol).
A great school district would be wonderful.
I don't mind being around other houses, we're very neighborly people.
I'd like it to feel far away, but not be far from stores and stuff.
DH works in Melville
Please tell me about your town
TIA!!!

Re: How Do You Like The Town You Live In?
We just moved to South Huntington in Oct. so far we love it. It's 5 min's from the Village, the mall is around the corner from me, I am a 5-10 min ride to the Northern, LIE and Southern State.
There is every store and restaurant within a few mile radius, we have Route 110 and Jericho Tpke.
It also boarders Melville

I am where Mrs - D - Girl is South Huntington and like she said mins away from everything making it so great. I have to sell my home but I wish I didn't have too. I just got done redoing everything. I love watching the moms exercising with children in the strollers and when its bad weather they stroller it in the mall. I am having a open house as posted on here.

Re: How Do You Like The Town You Live In?
you would love Setauket/East Setauket.
Three Village Schools are excellent.
all of the houses are on at least a third of an acre (I am on half).
Near smithhaven mall, downtown port jeff, other shopping centers.
i work in melville the commute is about 45 minutes during rush hour but its definitely worth it.

northport and fort salonga are all that you described. great SD (both northport and KP), ton of privacy (some areas are 1 acre zoned) and close to all. my neighborhood is VERY private and i am about 5 min from the sunken meadow.

We live in Levittown too in the Island Trees School District. DH went to Island Trees High School.
However, if you are looking for a lot of property, you won't find that in Levittown. May I suggest Commack, where I grew up? Great school district, larger housing plots, close to Melville.

To the border.. About 25 minutes.... Really not far.. And both towns , even Lake Ronkonkoma, and Holbrook are all right near the LIE and Sunrise... So it's very accessible..

Re: How Do You Like The Town You Live In?
I love my town (Holbrook). I like the whole feel. IMO I find people more considerate than the town I grew up in. I feel its a nice down-to-earth middle class community.
I love how close I am to major hwys, the train station and Islip airport.

Re: How Do You Like The Town You Live In?
My parents live in a great neighborhood in Holtsville - nice homes, fairly big plots (not an acre though - my parents are on a 1/2), good schools. I loved growing up there!
GL!
ETA: I live in CT now which is why I didn't recommend my own town!

Re: How Do You Like The Town You Live In?
I LOVE my town
We bought a house in Massapequa in 2006. I love my location, i love my house, and i love my nieghbors and block.
I used to live in new hyde park, and i love this town soooo much more!!!!
I feel like we are still in nassau county, but close to suffolk. I live about a half mile from the southern state parkway and a mile from the 135 and wantagh parkway, it doesnt take me long to get to places like floral park (where my dad lives) or huntington where i love to go to eat!

Re: How Do You Like The Town You Live In?
we live in east rockaway and love it. here's why:
- small town charm (it really is teeny) - friendly people, down to earth - reasonably priced homes - low taxes - safe - good location (7-10 min. to parkway, 40-45 min. LIRR ride, etc.) - i've heard only good things about the schools, but i don't have kids so i can't speak with first hand experience.
based on your post, overall i think you'd like East Rock. Only prob for you is, I don't think you'd be able to find your 1 acre+ of land.

I live in LB. I love it. It totally does not feel like Long Island to me which I love. The schools are so so but I can deal with that for the location.

Re: How Do You Like The Town You Live In?
We live in Sayville and love it. It has big properties not a big as you are looking for in the $400k price range but the higher you go in price the more land you get especially south of montalk highway. There are so many stores right on sunrise, home depot, 4 supermarkets, bed bath beyond, kmart, sears the list goes on and on. I wish teh mall was closer but it is really only 15-20 mins away. Fire Island is a 20 minute ferry ride and the schools are excellent.

Re: How Do You Like The Town You Live In?
I rent right now in Coram and overall I like it. Very close to shopping (25 and 347 are jam packed with all sorts of stores). It's quiet in my complex and it has all sorts of amenities. I wanted to stay in Suffolk and although I didn't want to ideally be this far North and East, I really do enjoy being "home". I'm not exactly sure if it's the town that brings about that feeling or more like whose waiting when I get ome

Re: How Do You Like The Town You Live In?
I live in Sayville and I absolutely LOVE it.
The downtown area is beautiful, clean and ALIVE. The chamber of commerce is active and there are tons of family oriented events and activities – from big stuff like the Seafood Festival and SummerFest – to smaller things like Family Fridays in the park.
The people are mostly friendly and truly involved and invested in their town. There’s a strong community and many of us shop at the local stores to help keep them thriving. It’s great to walk into a store or restaurant and get a truly heartfelt “Hi! How are the boys!”
It’s a very small town, “New England” feel. The properties tend to be well maintained and the school district is outstanding. Parents seem to be truly involved and collaborate with the administrators and teachers in the school and I love the little programs and events that they have.
On a nice day you can wander the Main Street and check out all the shops, catch a great lunch at one of the wonderful little restaurants and if you are feeling motivated you can catch a ferry over to Fire Island. Or if you want to avoid crossing the water, the little beach on the bay is clean and has a wonderful playground.
