How do you protect your Toddler's scalp in the sun?

I know DD is going to refuse to wear a sunhat this year. We already tried it a few weekends ago when it was hot out. Her hair is very fine and I am afraid her scalp is going to get fried this summer. She has too much hair to just slather sunscreen on her head.

Any tips?

Thanks!

Excellent question!

Logan's hair is so blonde that I don't know WHAT to do!

Honestly, I am a stickler about the hat, I tell him it is hat or outside. So now he asks for a hat when he wants to go outsideChat Icon

ETA: Maybe try a few different hats, baseball caps included and maybe she will like one? Or let her pick it out?

At BRU, when josh was 6 mos old...I bought a sunscreen kit. Inside was scalp spray.,

I think it was beach blanket baby brand.

I am a hat enforcer though. If the hat comes off, then we leave where ever we are to go home and go to bed. It always stays on.

Interesting question. DS pulls his hat off immediatly, but we only have one type. If I can find a baseball hat in his size, maybe we'll try that. Otherwise, I may need to be an enforcer too--don't like it, but his hair is fine and he is pale, he really needs something.

I made my DS into a hat man LOL i have always made sure he wears one as he is also dirty blonde and fair, and he got used to them. I may look into the sun screen spray for the hair that Janice mentionedChat Icon

I need to buy this! We are always just rubbing sunscreen in the kids hair. They are greasy messes but their scalps are protected.

they make spray on SPF for hair/scalp- it's for grown ups, but i bet you could use it on your toddler.... i use it on myself where my hair parts.

Thanks! I didn't know this stuff existed!! The hat was no problem last year. I'm still going to try to enforce it this year but I will definitely be stocking up on this!

Wouldn't this be the same as any other suncreen spray, or is it different?

Thanks!!

I use scalp spray on Nina but do not spray it directly on her scalp. It will make her hair SO greasy, even though it says it wont.

ETA: We also use the "Baby Blanket" brand

Insist on the hat. Just KEEP putting it back on her head and repeat that playing outside in the sun means wearing a hat (and if not, back inside you go!). She'll eventually get it!

The hat. It's a battle and he tries to take it off for the first 10 minutes but eventually gives in... until he remembers the hat later on!Chat Icon

I will try that scalp spray. It sounds like a good idea for "just in case".
