Re: how does money travel in your home?
both salaries get direct deposited into a joint account (we planned on having separate, but DH was laid off a month after we married - so that was scrapped right away).
Most bills are electronic, with exception of mortgage and daycare.
we transfer money to cover my student loan into my personal account (already set up that way) and then we transfer money into our investment accounts. Every other or few months, I transfer money that we don't need in checking into savings or send extra to our investment accounts.
we usually use a debit card for groceries, incidentals, but I do try to take out some cash for each of us every 2 weeks - especially for gas - which is cheaper if you pay cash.

Re: how does money travel in your home?
Dh gets paid weekly.
I pay bills weekly through our bank online.
I transfer money on payday to savings, another checking account we have for him to acess for work and misc. spending and the kids accounts weekly. ( we dont always have money for all or any of these accounts weekly though...: ( )
a few bills like car insurance and student loans are taken out directly from accounts monthly.

Re: how does money travel in your home?
in my pocket and out the door??
LOL..I work part time now so my pay is significantly less. Surprisingly we are on opposite schedules; so if i get paid one friday, DH is the next friday. SO at least every week there is a paycheck coming in.
everything is direct deposited into our checking. I move some money over every week for the mortgage. lately, there isnt much to go into savings, but we try.
we have 2 checking accounts, one for everything, and one was a money market that has the bulk of our savings that was converted to checking; another savings account that the mortgage is paid out of.
I have a side business and most of my money is in paypal with some of it in a business checking. DH has a paypal card to access my paypal account, but thats only in an emergency.
I write the checks and pay the bills.

Re: how does money travel in your home?
My husband and I work at the same company, so we get paid on the same day semi-monthly. All paychecks get deposited into our joint checking account. I pay all the bills and will periodically transfer money to "savings." Our savings account, though, is actually just a checking account at another bank (ING pays a higher % on checking accounts than savings accounts for some reason). We will generally use our savings to pay for anything over $500 (which doesn't include mortgage or oil, the two monthly expenses that are/can be over $500).

Re: how does money travel in your home?
DH gets paid weekly, I'm paid bi-weekly. His check gets spit... A set amount to ING savings and the kids accounts, the balance into our joint savings. He transfers money to checking as he writes out the bills. Money is also deducted for our investments.
My check has a set amount going into my checking and the balance to our joint money market.
I pay for the kids school, he pays for everything else. I never touch the joint checking or savings. I charge all of our monthy expenses (food, gas, etc...) and he pays the bill.
It works well for us. He has a system, I have a system, we're okay.

Re: how does money travel in your home?
We have a joint account as well as each having a personal checking account. We calculated a monthly budget, then figured out how much we brought in total per month, then figured out what percentage each of us contributes to the total income. That is the percentage of the bills each of us pays. Whenever a paycheck comes in for either of us we put our percentage in the joint account and the rest goes into our personal checking accounts.
Joint account pays for joint bills, i.e. rent, utilities, food, home necessities, things for SD, stuff like that.
Personal accounts pay for our personal credit cards, any personal shopping we want to do, anytime we go out to eat alone, etc.

Re: how does money travel in your home?
I get paid 2x per month and my DH gets paid weekly. Both checks are deposited into a joint checking account. $100/week gets direct deposited into a savings account. I set up auto pay for all bills except the mortgage because I pay extra every month and the amount is different every month.
I will estimate how much we need for the month and then transfer an amount to an ING savings account.
My DH wont do a budget but I wish he would!
