DS just got his first ear infection. I think he has had it for about 3 days and got prescribed antibiotics today.
Just wondering how long a usual ear infection lasts.
Do you keep your DC home when s/he has an ear infection?

Once on meds i'd say 3-4 days.. with the pain subsiding each day.
I would not leave a child home for an ear infection unless they were really uncomfortable.

When DS had his last ear infection, I sent him after he was on antibiotics for 24 hrs and 24hrs fever free (he had a fever with it).

Same here-as long as they are not showing signs of pain either.

DS is the king of ear infections.....
Almost always, he responds to antibiotics quickly, so I never keep him home unless he has a fever also (which is rare for him).
The length varies depending on severity.....3-5 days he usually is cleared up.
