How long is your child's Kindergarten school day?
My DD will go to school from 8.20am to 3.10pm and I just think its Wayyyyyyyyyyyy too long for them at this age.
Thoughts? Is this nearly 7 hour day the norm?

I'm not sure of the exact hours. Believe it or not last year it changed after the first week when they couldnt get the bussing right, but its about that. On the days that I need to do before and after care b/c DH is working my DS will be in school from 7:15 to 4:15. They were in preschool/daycare that long too.

At our school it's 9:15 - 11:53 or 12:53 - 3:30.

My girls go to Catholic school and the school day is the same for all grades from PreK to 8th: 8:15a to 2:30p.

Thanks for your replies..yes its the same for all grades in DD's school too...It just seems so wrong to take them from a 2 1/2 hour Pre K to a 7 hour Kindergarten day!

Ours is 9:20-3:20pm and we will be using the 7am before school care....so sad because I totally agree that it's a really long day. Feeling a tad guilty!

I'm in NC, but my son is going to feel like he's on vacation, lol!
His day now is from 7-7:30am until 5:30-5:45pm at Preschool since we work FT.
His day at kindergarten is from 9:15 until 3:45pm. Not including bus/travel time.
6.5 hours is nothing to me compared to Preschool, lol.

I guess its just me feeling bad or strange as I have always had the kids with me - I am a work at home mom so even though I have had a sitter for them I always see them all day so this seems like it will be an enternity

we are half day - 9:30 to 12:00 or 1:00 to 3:30
my work district is extended day - 8:30 - 2:00

DS is entering a full day of kindergarten also. I really wish it was only half day but they only offer full day  They said it will be from 9-3. Very long day and I hope DS will get through it, esp bc he barely eats sandwiches yet!

My son's was 8:20 to 2:30. Don't forget though that they are not really sitting at their desks studying all those hours. At least half of their day is filled with playtime, lunchtime and playground outside time. The other half they practice writing, reading and liste to stories being read to them, washing hands, going to the bathroom, etc. etc. They are not at all overexerted!

8:10 to 2:55.
There is a rest time incorporated into their day.

roughly 9-3, though bus routes will add to that.
Its not so far off of her 9:30-2:30 pre-K hours, though that wasn't 5 days...

My kids went to daycare from 8:30-5:15 everyday so I never felt like their Kindergarten was too long for them.

this is going to be me next year.
he will be fine...but I will be lost!!
2 days a month, he hangs out with dh for about 4-5 hours together. by the time he gets home i have missed him so much.
I have been dreading his 5th bday. I know he is going to love it-but it is so overwhelming to know that for the majority of his day he will be somewhere else.

I wish ours was that long. DS goes from 9:15am to 2:45pm. Chicago has one of the shortest school days in the country.

Im not sure of the exact times yet.. but she starts at 8:30 and will be home by 2:30.. I have no idea what I'm going to do without her lol
