How many ear infections before you saw an ENT?

Xavier is on his 4th ear infection in 7 months. His ped said if it kept happening it would want him to see an ENT. I had both boys with me so didn't think to ask. How many did your DC get before being referred to an ENT.

DS got up to 8 before the doc recommended seeing the ent

I dont think they go by how many in total... but howmany in a 6 mth span or so. DD probably had 8 or so before we went...but 3 or 4 that wouldnt clear up with one run of antibiotic in a 6 mth time span.

4 in 6 months. I think 4 in 6 months or 6 in a year is when they make the referral.

Oh geez...I don't know how you guys do it. I feel so bad for the 4 he has had...I couldn't imagine having to deal with it more frequently than that.

DD had 5 in a 4 month period and I took her. He's trying to hold off on tubes so she has pretty much been on constant antibiotics. Right now she hasn't and an infection for about 3 weeks but she still has fluid so they are trying to keep an infection away.

DS has had 4-5 in the past year... Its like every time he cuts a tooth; he gets an ear infection...

We have never even discussed seeing an ENT/getting tubes....

I kept begging to see an ENT, but they waited until after 15m and she had 9 double infections by that point. 9 within 12m

I'm not sure if they go by how many in total. With my son he's had three since Christmas Eve and his ped sent us to an ENT. His went like this: Christmas Eve, double ear infection, took him to PM peds and was given amox. A week later, still had fever took him to his ped who said he still had an ear infection and put him on zithromax; 10 days later recheck of the ears no ear infection but his ear drums weren't moving like they were supposed to (the ped used a little machine thing to check) and since he was congested again he put him on another round of zithromax. His 10 day check up after that was fine but in mid January another bad double ear infection was put on another antibiotic and sent to an ENT. The ENT said that yes he still has fluid in his ears but that the fluid doesn't go away immediately after the infection clears up. So he is taking the wait and see approach. If in 5-6 weeks the fluid is still there he will drain it. He also gave me a nose spray to use 1x per day and told me to use the salt water nose spray (like little noses) 1-2x per day. I think my DD had 5, then we went to the ENT....and she's getting ear tube surgery next week

we are on 6 in 4 months going back to recheck in 2 weeks and then most likely to an ENT. his ears arent clearing with meds
