how many of you rescued their pet?
just curious to see how many of you rescued an animal than to buy from a pet store or breeder.
we originally wanted a huskey ... but purebreds are just so much 
so we went to northshore and rescued our puppy! we are so happy that we did!! i would love to rescue a older dog one day.. i feel soooooo bad for them

our family dog was rescued. my brother got him from NSAL as well. he was a rescued animal from an abused home--his previous owners used to beat him. 
he's an adorable jack russell mutt mix...so freaking cute. i can't imagine why ANYONE would hurt him. he found the lucky ticket with our family though---he's spoiled rotten!
my cat -- he was only 3 wks old when i found him. i think my parent's dog must have scared the mom away from the backyard---and i heard him crying for hours and finally took him inside and nursed him until he was old enough for regular food

So, if I say I bought mine at a Pet Store...that is NOT rescuing him??
Or should I NOT go there with this topic...because in my mind after reading all this stuff about Puppy Mills and store..I think I DID rescue him

we found our kitten (who turned into a MASSIVE sized cat) during a terrible thunderstorm.
we heard him meowing and a neighbor told us she heard him for days.
this is what we found:
how can i not take him home and LOVE him?
He is NOW the size of a medium sized dog.

we found our kitten (who turned into a MASSIVE sized cat) during a terrible thunderstorm.
we heard him meowing and a neighbor told us she heard him for days.
this is what we found:

my next door neighbor has a similar story ... he rescued a dog that was beaten too.. it took ALOT to train him..but this dog is amazing!!

I have three cats, all rescues. Two we adopted from a LIFer who rescued a pregnant stray. The other one won us over in the waiting room at our vet's office.

I grew up with a husky, they are GREAT dogs
that being said, we adopted Sandy from animal control
the dog catcher got her walking along the street, she was emaciated when we got her (only 9 lbs)...not sure how long she was out on the street for

I got Hershey from a co-worker who got her from NSAL.
Bailey was given to DH by his ex-GF - she got him at Yuppy Puppy 
And Max we got at Little Shelter (he had been returned there twice I think they said over his lifetime )

When DH & I got engaged we rescued the love of my life "roger" from the little shelter in Huntington. They told us he was 7 but turns out he was closer to 11. He only lasted with us 2 years before he passed away from cancer. But he was with us for our engagement, wedding, first house etc and he was the best dog ever. After Roger passed we rescued our crazy "bruno" from bobby & the strays (on petfinder.com). He's a handful but I adore him to pieces. Theres some kind of intense bond there like they know you are the one who saved them. It's a personal choice but DH & I have never and will never buy an animal. We will only adopt.

Yeah (we think) he's a Maine Coon. He doesn't so much look like one in the face anymore... but he has this BIG BUSHY tail... i LOOOOOOOVE it.

Between myself and my husband we have had 10 dogs in our adult lives, 7 of which were rescued, one was a pet shop dog (oh yes...this is why I am ADAMANT about the education), and 2 were from reputable breeders.
I just noticed it said "pet." add to the above 3 cats, 4 leopard geckos, a cockatoo, and a box turtle.

Our cat was rescued from Little Shelter. I adopted a adult cat too. They told me I did a good thing by doing this. I am so happy and he is just so cute! He is 3 yrs old and makes us smile !
