Re: how many of you rescued their pet?

We rescued our dog but it was not through a rescue organization, it was a private rescue. My uncle met someone who had to "get rid" of a dachshund and had intentions to bring him to the pound. My uncle knew that I loved this breed and asked if I wanted him. The story of how it all unfolded is absolutely bizarre, as were the conditions that Oscar was living in. Last time Oscar saw his prior owner, the guy was at his place of business but was naked when he went outside to hand over Oscar through a car window. It takes one to know one, as my uncle is a rather bizarere guy, too. I later found out that I was just my uncle's backup in case he and my aunt could not keep Oscar for themselves. They tried to keep Oscar but decided he was a bad dog because he ate from their other dog's food bowl. As if he should have suspected that dog food in a dog bowl was off limits. Chat Icon Hey, they got me a great dog!!!!!!!

Re: how many of you rescued their pet?

Growing up, I had many cats over the years (many) who we rescued as strays on the street. One of our cats was pg when we rescued her. We also found a litter of kittens whose mother never returned. We took them in, my spayed girl cat became their mom, and we fed them and cared for them round the clock (they were just days old). We had them until the last one died recently, about 17 years later. Unfortunately, DH has asthma and allergies so we cannot have cats at our home ever....or most types of dogs.... and are very limited in what kinds of animals we can adopt.
Chat Icon So we got our 2 dogs directly from a breeder to know their definite breed, and all has worked out allergy wise. Knowing better now what kinds of dogs he may be able to tolerate, we would like to adopt a dog or two from a breed specific rescue in the near future.

My parents took in a pregnant stray.
She gave birth to the kittens on my parents front lawn.
My mother was able to give 2 kittens to her friends, my parents kept one (and the mom) and I took a kitten as well...
He was a little furball, and now he's huge..LOL.

All 4 of our cats are rescues. Our oldest 2, Ravi & Oli, were born to a feral and my friend's neighbor rescued them.

Our other 2 cats we rescued from the street ourselves. We had every intention of adopting them out but they wouldn't have it. They demanded on being permanent residents.

Re: how many of you rescued their pet?

My 14 year old cat was rescued from the ASPCA when he was 2 years old. He's always been pretty healthy and has such a wonderful demeanor. My dog is around 10 years old give or take we're not sure and he was rescued from an Animal Shelter in Harlem. He is a purebred Cocker. He's a little Cujoish sometimes but that's because he's super spoiledChat Icon We're in the process of getting him trained thoughChat Icon Honestly I wouldn't trade my animals for the world and it breaks my heart to think that if I didn't rescue them they probably would have been put to sleep. They lead pretty good lives....sometimes I wish we could trade placesChat Icon

Re: how many of you rescued their pet?

we rescued out kitty and it was the best thing we ever did - i have only ever had rescued pets, never a pet store pet.

we actually wanted a very young kitten but we found him when he was about 16-18 weeks old and OMG what a mush... he is seriously the best, sweetest, most active and fun cat i have ever met and i am so in love with him Chat Icon

I think Gunnar was a rescue...but I'm not sure because he was my 15th birthday gift from my best friend. Ah...Gunnar, the gift that keeps on biting! He still hates me 17 years later.

We adopted Scout 3 years ago...and she is my perfect cat.Chat Icon

We are desperately trying to rescue. In fact, had our home visit for our local rescue group. Only time will tell, but I am optimistic!

Hey maybe Rocky and Sophie know each other. THat is where we adopted Rocky. I remember when we went to pick him up someone was dropping off some beautiful purebred Yorkies that they could no longer "care" for. So sadChat Icon

Re: how many of you rescued their pet?

I guess Katie would count as a rescue Chat Icon

We adopted her from a friend of a friend 7/06. Their boxer puppy was basically beating her up while trying to play with her and she wound up with a punctured liver and a large tear near her eye Chat Icon She had stopped eating and was wetting all over the house... So we took her in.
