how do you have sex if they sleep with you?
DS goes to sleep in his crib and I bring him into bed when I go to bed, so he doesn't interfere with anything.
Is he awake when you transfer him into your bed or do you do it just to have him in the bed with you?

Re: How many of you sleep with your infants?
DD slept with me when she was a newborn. I did have one of those little co-sleeping things that go IN the bed (not next to it), but she wasn't very comfy in it, so she would lay right next to me. I never slept in the beginning, so I wasn't worried about rolling onto her, plus I have a king size bed and it was just me in it.

Nope. Never will and honestly don't understand why people do.
Sorry.
Those that do, do find DC to be clingy or independent?
What is your reason for doing this? Just curious.

Re: How many of you sleep with your infants?
Not only bc I co-sleep with my dd am I defending co-sleeping but seriously...hes seen it 3xs??? I am sure hes seen alot of bad things happen 3xs...thats not the reason to say ABSOLUTELY NO CO-SLEEPING. An infant can also be in their own crib and pass from SIDS without the parents knowing. Did he tell these people that they should have kept the infant in their rooms? Tragedy is tragedy. I dont see a point to defending not co-sleeping by random stories. I think everyone needs to do what is best for themselves and their baby.

My DD is far from Clingy or dependent on me. She is in daycare which I feel gives her even more independence.

Those that co-sleep, is it because you are afraid of SIDS or because DC didnt sleep well in the crib?

Re: How many of you sleep with your infants?
I don't co sleep, but when he was a bit smaller when he woke at 5am, would cuddle with him on the couch and snooze, but I posistioned him in such a way in my arm, that wasn't totally comfortable, but also would prevent me from rolling on him. Now that he is almost 6 months, I don't do it. A because he is more mobile, but also because I don't want to create bad sleep habits. If he wakes up at night (rarely) I just take care of what he needs, and put him back in his crib.

My son was never clingy and he slept in my bed for a long time. While I only co-slept with DD for 4 months or so, she isn't clingy either. Both of them never shed a tear when dropping them off for daycare, etc.
Oh, and to answer the "why". It's eaiser. I didn't have to get up to pop the binky back in 25 times a night since she was right next to me. It's easier to feed and go right back to sleep. It's more bonding IMO. That and my kids hated their cribs Although Emma sleeps in it now, but DS NEVER slept in a crib.

I think she asks a valid and honest question..I'm curious to know as well! I don't know if I would think its a "bonding" thing, as the point is for everyone to be sleeping and having a good nights sleep.
For ME, the benefits of the crib were that my son knows it as "his" space, a place where he goes to bed and mom and dad have their own beds...to me its setting boundaries...Johnny's room and mom and dads room, thats really it. Oh and honestly we don't have enough room in our bed for a kid, lol. I feel cramped enough in our queen bed as it is!
Wanted to add....had I experienced a child who refused to sleep in his crib, was up all night crying in his room and only slept in our bed then i prob would have been tempted to try it. You just never know in parenting!! But we put him in his crib early and he never ever had a problem. So that is why its hard to imagine a child in our bed...I think I would hate it and not sleep well, but you never know..

I couldnt agree more with you! This doesnt have to be a debate...the question was how many people sleep with their infants...everyone answered. I cant understand why people are asking..."what is the reason behind it?" Because we like to. Theres no ryhme or reason but it ANNOYS me to peices that bc I state I do that it becomes "Is you child clingy?" How is a child labeled clingy just because they sleep in my bed.

Re: How many of you sleep with your infants?
It is not something I would ever do. I work in and ER and in the past 4 years I saw 2 children who got rolled on by their parents and IMO it is not worth the danger. After seeing that firsthand it is an impossible image to forget.
That being said, I don't judge anyone who chooses to do it....to each his own.

I agree with the clingy thing..I don't think a child is more or less clingy b/c of sleeping arrangements. I know plenty o 'kids who are way clingy and sleep in a crib...
Asking the benefits though is a valid question I think. It could help someone out who is going through it now!

Is he awake when you transfer him into your bed or do you do it just to have him in the bed with you?
Nope, he's sound asleep. I do it in large part because I work 3 days a week and on those days I only see him about 2 or 3 rushed hours. I enjoy having him to cuddle up with all night. I like knowing he's safe and right next to me if he needs anything -- I can tell if he's hot or cold, etc. I really feel like it helps with bonding.
As for the concern of make a child overly-dependent or clingy, that hasn't been my experience at all. Infants and toddlers are dependent and the more their needs are fulfilled now, the less they look to other people or things to fulfill those needs later.
There's nothing wrong with putting an infant in a crib if that works for you, but there are emotional benefits from co-sleeping if it works well for your family. The best place for your child to sleep is the place where everyone sleeps best!

Love you girly and wish that I had your libido(sp?)
As for our DD, sleeps in her crib. Always. I would not sleep (and I need my sleep) if she was in my bed the entire nite and I never wanted to create that habit. And DH and I need that, the alone time that we dont get most of day. Even if its not sex, its ALONE TIME.
And DH is a cop, who has gotten one too many calls about the loss of a baby due to a parent rolling over on their child

Re: How many of you sleep with your infants?
I never considered cosleeping, but when DS was an infant I did often fall asleep with him in our bed after nursing- not to mention he hated the bassinet. But DH and I slept like sh!t! DH was constantly waking up in a panic that he had rolled over on the baby. I made every effort to put him back in his bassinet until he got used to it. He was transfered to his crib and his own room at 3 months. For us, I found that he slept better than ever. He moves around a lot in his sleep and we didn't allow him to do that when he was with us. But I say, to each his own. I know that for me I have always tried to avois things that would be difficult to break him of.

So what are the benefits of doing this?
Because you asked Cosleeping
I think the reason this is a touchy subject is because all too often co-sleeping is denounced by people who have spent absolutely no time researching it or trying to understand it. It falls outside our cultural norm, so many people automatically dismiss it as harmful without really looking into it.
Those of us who do co-sleep find ourselves on the defensive with family, friends, co-workers, etc.
