Re: How many of you sleep with your infants?
Let me ask you this ? for all the co-sleepers.
My son goes to bed at 6:30 - then I fold the laundry - put things away - clean the room - shower - etc - all in my room. I'll even read a magazine in bed before I fall asleep to unwind.
Do you just not go into your room at this point? Do you have the side bars up so that the child does not roll off the bed when you are not there? Now that Jack is crawling - I can't so much as leave him on the bed to shut the closet door without him moving to the side almost falling off.
Just curious how it works.
To each his own - for me, my room is my place to unwind at the end of a long day. For me and my DH only (oh - and the dog too! )

So what are the benefits of doing this?
Because you asked Cosleeping
I think the reason this is a touchy subject is because all too often co-sleeping is denounced by people who have spent absolutely no time researching it or trying to understand it. It falls outside our cultural norm, so many people automatically dismiss it as harmful without really looking into it.
Those of us who do co-sleep find ourselves on the defensive with family, friends, co-workers, etc.
Thank you.

Re: How many of you sleep with your infants?
I'm glad to see this debate b/c I always said I would NEVER but now that we have DS - it's starting to happen.
I have the co-sleeper too but he doesn't seem to be a fan.
As far as DH sleeping with him - so far he just cradles him and sleeps upright (2 hours max). When I've done it, I have him lay on the co-sleeper side and place him on the bed cradled in one arm with my blanket tucked low on me. I figure if god forbid he did do a roll - the co-sleep is right there to catch him.
I'm debating whether we'll go on like this - but we all seem to be getting more sleep with him next to us - he seems to really want the human comfort.

We co-sleep with DD from about 3am on. She sleeps on my side and cradled in my arm. I do not move at all when she sleeps like this.

Hey SW-Congrats on your boy!!It went so fast. I am not a parent (yet crossing fingers ) But has anyone heard of kangaroo care? My friend had preemies and they had her do this-skin to skin contact helps the babies to do better. Maybe that would be a nice alternative to co-sleeping. Just a suggestion. Everyone should do what they want with their own child. best of luck on your new adventure

Kangaroo care is great. I used to wear DS all the time when he was little. I really wouldn't think of it in terms as an alternative to co-sleeping, but I guess you are talking about the bonding benefits? I definately do think it has great bonding benefits.

I may put DS in his room this fall. He turns 2 in November. I like keeping him in my room over the summer so we only have to run the AC in one room.
Honestly, I don't have set time frames. He's goes in his room when it's time for him to go in his room. When the situation no longer works, either for him or for me or for my husband. I don't think it's necessary to set arbitrary time-lines.
We're happy co-sleepers. We have a big bed. DH and I have plenty of time to ourselved and we all sleep well. So, him moving to his own room is part of a natural evolution when it's time and I really don't know when that will be.

people want to sleep with their kids with their husband thats their choice but when is it time for them to go back into their own bed? how do they know the boundry? I know there is no more wild sex if the kid is in the bed..

Well obviously I don’t buy into the whole “gotta set a boundary that excludes my child from my bed” mentality. A well adjusted child will sleep in his room when he’s ready. I don’t think it’s beneficial to try to force independence on an inherently dependent being. As I said above DS will move to his room when co-sleeping no longer works and he will always be welcome back in our bed if he’s going through a rough time and needs support.
As for sex -- it's really not that complicated. For me, it's easy because DS goes to sleep in his crib. Other people just find alternative locations -- doesn't sound boring to me.

She said that a well adjusted child will sleep in their own bed when ready. Meaning, they won't want to sleep with their parents forever.
I'm not even sure why you are questioning the whole co-sleeping thing

If all your child knows it to sleep with mommy and daddy, how will they become well adjusted? My son took to the crib, we didn't force him in his own room or force him to be independent.
ETA: I am not questioning those who co-sleep. I am just curious as to the reasons behind it

I just wanted to say, if I kept my sex life to strictly the bedroom...that would be boring!
I just wanted to add that once Sofia is a bit more mobile and active..you will be finding very creative ways to be intimate.

Thats not factual. I am 32 and MANY people did Co-Sleep. If you are referring to your household only then that is right but in terms of others, its not a new thing.
