How many times have you been hospitalized?

DH and I were talking about how (KNOCK on WOOD) neither one of us has been hospitalized for anything serious, illness etc.... just various trips to the ER for broken bones and /or stitches.

But a few of our friends have been for one reason or another so it got me thinking...

have you ever been hospitalized for something??

(excluding giving birth LOL)

once when I had to have my appendix out. Think I was about 20.

DH was for the first time at 31 for his gall bladder.

eta: to steal barb's word, I was also co-admitted with DD at 4 months old after she passed out in the ped's office after her shots.

i was also co-admitted with Dd #2, who got a fever at 3 weeks old. spinal tap, blood work. it sucked.

Numerous times, but only overnight when I had DD.

I have had 6 surgeries in the last 10 years.

my mom says i should have been born in a bubble..i am the type of person who walks into walls lol but also 20 yrs of volleyball,basketball and softball did some too

i have broken

nose twice
wrist
8 fingers
3 ribs
collarbone
ankle
2 toes

had 2 knee surgires..tore my ACL'S

stitches galore..

but the topper..in 1999 i fell off a stepladder and to break my fall i placed my arm down..on a 400 degree hamburger grill ..it was so bad my entire arm ws just melted away..well from wrist to elbow..

i am a klutz to the millionth degree

None The last time I was a patient was when I was born 29yrs ago, god willing the next time will be when I give birth in October.

Just once, and it was the longest week in my life! I had just had my DD (she was barely 3 weeks old) and I was so sick, I finally went to my doc, thinking of had the flu - well my blood pressure was sooo low, my fever was 106, so I was taken by ambulance to the ER and admitted for a week. I had a kidney infection.

I was in the hospital again to have the defect in my kidney repaired a few months later, but it was only overnight.

I'm very fortunate to have only had a few trips to the ER - outside of labors, I've never had to personally get admitted.

I was co-admitted (I made up that word) with my 2 week old newborn, who had a spinal tap & a 103+ fever.

edited to add:
I was admitted as an infant. I stopped breathing was I was just under 2 & was on a ventilator.

and I forgot...I had two foot surgeries so add another two times

Twice for surgeries: 1999 Gallbladder and last week for double hernia and tummy tuck

Besides Birth and my LONG Azzz "bed rest" stay..

One Time in 2007 for Gallbladder.
Was supposed to go home next day, but, it was so badly infected, drs. wanted to keep an eye on me one more night/day! UuugggH

Only once. An oral surgeon found a large tumor by my jawline when he was removing a wisdom tooth so I had to get it removed ASAP to get it biopsied (thank god it was benign!).

Poor DS is only 3 and he's already been hospitalized twice

Never overnight.

I had procedures done where I was put to sleep a few times... about 4 in total I believe.

But I never had an overnight stay at the hospital. My first time will be when I give birth in early July.

I had my first MS attack in October and they admitted me overnight for testing because they didn't know what it was at the time (I went numb from the waist down). That was the first and only time (besides DD) that I've been hospitalized.

I know I was hospitalized twice when I was an infant for high fevers. After that:


Before 2010 - 4 surgeries

In 2010 - 4 surgeries

Jan 2011 - 1 surgery


I pray to God that I am done. I've had enough.

This does not include ER visits or 4 day-op procedures.

Twice - when I was 2 years old, I broke my hip (father fell on top of me in one of those jumping castles), and then about 6 months after that I broke my leg (hip wasn't completely healed yet, and I was playing with a dog and fell).

I had a terrible accident when I was 21

After that I have had 5 surgeries in the last 11 years

Plus nuermous times to hive breakouts the docs could never explain

And I was Co admitted with DS when he was 6 weeks old and had a high fever

Aside from giving birth 3x and they were serious and all in the same year. That was 2005. Not a good year.

1989- hip infection (sinivitis)
1990-ruptured ovarian cyst
1999- removal of an ovarian tumor

Only admitted overnight twice, both around the same incident...I crashed into a rock jetty on a jetski going 30mph when I was 13. I did better than the jetski, which shattered into a billion piece, but not by much. My arm was mangled, I had cuts and bruises everywhere, and a severe concussion. I stayed overnight that night and then was readmitted a few days later when I passed out.

Other times I went to the emergency room:
1) Dad gave me something like 10 times the regular dose of tylenol over the course of a day when I was 2.
2) Random seizure when I was vacationing in St. Croix (not epileptic, it was out of nowhere).
3) D&C a few years ago :(

I've been very lucky.

Besides being born and giving birth, I was only hospitalized for one procedure, not overnight.
