Re: How many words does your 2 1/2 year old say?
We were worried because Connor didn't hardly say anything except a few words at 2 yrs old. He mostly grunted. Then very soon after that he just started talking up a storm. He's 2 yrs and 8 months old now and I can have a conversation with him at anytime. He speaks full sentences. I can't believe in just a matter of 6 months the difference. You never would have known he was a late talker. Every kid is different and will start talking when they are ready to and basically overnight. At least with my kids that happens. Connor is also in Preschool so I'm not sure if that plays a role in it or not and he has a big brother. Caiden actually started talking a lot younger than Connor, but he was also in Preschool/daycare since he was 6 weeks old.

Re: How many words does your 2 1/2 year old say?
John is 29 months today and is a very late talker. He still points and might grunt but, is saying more words everyday and not doing complete sentences. He says "bye-bye" when he knows we are leaving the house, asks for daddy or bbay( his little sister) in the AM when he wakes up but, doesn't say "where is daddy or sister?" He does mimick alot like a airplane, train, etc and has always been a thinker. We are going to see the PED next month and see if we need to do an evaluation which I know we will need too.

Re: How many words does your 2 1/2 year old say?
at 24 mos, Josh had 7 "everyday" words.
He started speech therapy at 26 mos...what a huge improvement!
he is 29 mos...full sentences...very clear.
its like a switch went off...I totally believe EI brought him to the next level of speaking.
no grunting, got rids of his "uhhs"

Same here. Plus he also speaks very clearly. Strangers can understand him perfectly well.
My cousin told me its a little freaky bc he will have a conversation with you but he is small for his age!

Re: How many words does your 2 1/2 year old say?
The general guidelines we learned in school were 1 word sentences understand 25% at 1 2 word sentences understand 50% at 2 3 word sentences understand 75% at 3 4 word sentences understand 100% at 4
It's different if the child has older siblings or goes to daycare.
That being said DS is in daycare. He has full conversations with complete sentences. I understand about 75-90% (probably 50% to people that aren't family).
