How much are you planning to spend on a winter coat for your baby?
I had slight sticker shock when I realized that they charge so much for baby coats. I liked a warm coat for an infant for $150. Not sure if this is norm or not.

I usually get my girls 2 winter coats...one play and one dressier...this year I am going to get them 3, a play, a "good" casual coat, and a dress coat...I always buy Rothschild, which are about 70ish each.

Re: How much are you planning to spend on a winter coat for your baby?
For one that's warm but thin enough to wear in the carseat, I try to spend under $30. For one to wear outside in winter, I try to spend under like $40-50. Got a Land's End super-warm snow jacket last year on clearance for this winter for like $30!

$35-$40.
I found a great brand at Sears 2 years ago. They fit DS the best and they are super warm.

This is what we got too, but with 30% off, so it was less than 50.

For an everyday coat, I usually get the OshKosh 4 in one - it has a removable fleece lining that can be worn alone or together with the outer piece - I found it takes us straight from Fall through Spring. I usually pay around $30 either at the outlet or BJ's.

Ill probably use gift cards we already have. I don't plan on spending a lot. As my dear departed mother would say in her heavy Long Island Jewish Housewife accent:
"Why are you going to spend so much money on something the baby is going to pish in?"
I have to say I'd agree.

This winter... $0 I think. He'll be 4-8 months and we got a cozy fuzzy suit as a gift as well as a warm London Fog coat. Not sure if he'll need more. Plus I do have access to a few boy's hand me downs.

About $15. I found a London Fog in the LTD Commodities catalog.
ETA: I usually get the 3 in 1 from TCP though. If I hadn't found the one from LTD that's the one I'd be getting again. I always try to find one with a removable hood.

Re: How much are you planning to spend on a winter coat for your baby?
My advice:
Cailen was born in April - his first winter, we were given a hand-me-down winter coat... he was around 8-10 months when it would have been needed - he never even used it.
We didn't hang out outside enough for him to need a winter coat on (unless you live in the city and will be outside a lot) since he was in and out of the car a lot and they can't wear coats in their car seats. I wound up buying at a Denny's Crazy Sale a Northface type fleece jacket (I bought 3 for $15 each!) and layered under it - and it worked perfectly. He had a snowsuit he wore one time when I tried to get him to play in the snow but he hated it so there was no need to have a snowsuit on him for in and out of the car...
His second winter - last winter - I bought a cute puffy coat from the Children's Place - it was great and warm - you should check them out plus they always send tons of coupons - I maybe spent $40 on it. Since he was older - 20 month range - he wore it a little more often since he played outside more. But again, going in and out of the car was a pain with it - he still fit in 2 of the fleece jackets and I got another year out of them and again layered them up (I highly recommend you getting at least one of those types of jackets and get a larger size to layer and use for more than one year as well!)
This year I'm hoping the Children's Place coat still fits, but guess what? Those 2 fleece jackets STILL fit him, and I'll be geting my 3rd winter out of them (best purchase I ever made EVER - and 15 bucks!!! )
Just something to consider before you put out a lot of money for something you may not use as much as you think!

Re: How much are you planning to spend on a winter coat for your baby?
I think $150 is too much to spend on a jacket for a baby. I got these at Old Navy. The top Jacket was $20 and the fleece jacket was $10. I got them in the mail yesturday and they are really nice. I figured I could use the jacket for the fall into maybe December. I plan on getting a snow suit as well, if we plan on being outside for long periods of time. I'm just planning on layering his clothes. I would check out Old Navy website. They have a couple of really cute coats for not much money. Image Attachment(s):

Re: How much are you planning to spend on a winter coat for your baby?
I havent even looked yet, but realize its getting cold pretty fast.. I usually go to Dennys for winter coats because they always have a ton left on sale, and i normall got my ds' coats for like 30 bux, when they were orignally over 100.. im getting one dressy, and one not so dressy..i saw a ed hardy at Century that i liked for dd..ds' warmest coat from the gap last year that i got on that steal of a price (i think like 26 bux) still fits him.. I probably wont spend over 50 on each...but im a sale shopper

Re: How much are you planning to spend on a winter coat for your baby?
FYI, oldnavy.com is having some great sales right now. Lots of baby stuff is on a great sale, plus then if you spend $50+ on baby stuff, you get free shipping. And if you spend $100 on their whole site, you get 20% off (both promotions listed right on their website!).

Re: How much are you planning to spend on a winter coat for your baby?
$25 - walmart
I got him the same coat last year. It's like the columbia jackets with the 2 layers. Its really good b/c if one layer gets dirty, you still have the other layer. Plus, the outside is a little bigger so if he grows, or in the spring - still good to go.
Now, my question is size....

Re: How much are you planning to spend on a winter coat for your baby?
For last year, we got a short winter coat from the gap for about $40 and a ralph lauren snowsuit on sale at Lord and Taylor for $50.
This year I bought the Gap Warmest jacket last year for $15!!!!!
I definitely think $150 is waaaayyyy too much.

Re: How much are you planning to spend on a winter coat for your baby?
Last year I bought DD a fleece lined waterproof coat for $20. I'm 99% sure it still fits her. If so, this year I won't be spending anything. If not, I'm going back to the same store (H&M) to see what this year's selection is like.
