Re: how much did you spend altogether on Baptism?

This question is really open ended....really depends on what kind of festivity you are looking to do, where you have the baptism, the amount of people you invite, whether you get a band, dj, photographer, videographer, etc. I'm doing DS's baptism at the north ritz club and getting a dj, photographer, videographer, kids entertainment, centerpieces, invites, (godparents buy the outfit and give the favors)...it is costing a pretty penny bc it is peak wedding season and they didn't cut the price just bc it is a baptism. Buttt I have friends and relatives who just did simple invites and dinners and only spent $5-$10k so it really depends!

i'm def on the lower end of the spectrum. DH JUST got back to work after 6 mos laid off from union & i'm on maternity leave most likely to be SAHM for a while.

we had 60 people in a private room in a restaurant with a dj. I think altogether we spent about 3K. we used the write-in invitations from cvs. did balloons (we filled ourselves) for centerpieces and i made chocolate lollipops for favors. we got the cake from costco.

dont' let this scare you. Agape08 is definitely on the MUCH higher end of the spectrum. Even those that she considers simple (between $5-10K) is would be considered very high by many people.

For DD's christening, we had it at home and the food catered in from a local place. We spent about $300.00 on the catered food and then did a few things ourselves like a baked ham and some salads. We got the cake at BJs and got a keg of beer and some wine and soda. Altogether I would say we spent about $800.00 and we had about 50 people. I did simple decorations (just some basic table cloths, christening themed table-wear) and fresh flowers from costco for the centerpieces. For favors, I had a pic taken of DD in her christening gown and framed it in one of those clear plastic frames.

For DS's christening in a month, we've decided to have it out at a Knights of Columbus Hall. Between a toddler, a newborn, and my sister getting married just 2 weeks before the christening (I wanted to squeeze it in before family in from overseas for the wedding go home), I just don't have the time or energy to get the house together to have it at home. The hall rental is costing $450 (we have to bring in the food and booze) and we will do the same type of decorations, food and favors as DD's Christening. I am hoping not to go over $1200. I will probably spend a little more on food this time--- we had NO left overs at all so I want to order a little more this time. Not sure if there was no leftovers because we didn't order enough or people ate too much because it was so good!

Don't stress -- you can do something nice for cheap. good luck!

Re: how much did you spend altogether on Baptism?

Yea that's why I said it really depends....I'm greek so our baptisms are similar to what the jewish faith does for bar/bat mitzfahs (sp?). We "have" to invite a ton of family so I would say a typical baptism for us is minimum 100 people....that's why it adds up. I wish I could limit it to a smaller group and spend less :(

Re: how much did you spend altogether on Baptism?

i was wondering if the church would allow us to use their reception room. i know they have one that was used for refreshments after RCIA received sacraments but i don't know if they ever allow public to use it

i dont know the total i didnt really add it up but i know i spent at least 1500 and no more than 2000 i think.

I rented chairs tables tents with walls for 72 pople ( i did not have this many but it was a package deal it was the best price). Food was catered held in a backyard had no entertainment. I got a pretty good price on food sincei was friends with the person doing it. I also got a hook up on the cake cause it was my friends bakery but it still was about $80 ( i could have went to BJs and got one for 20 if i just wanted a sheet cake).

Stopped keeping track at 8k. Hall, floral centerpices, DJ, Photographer, Videographer, favors, kids entertainment, invitations, church donation... If i added it all up it would probably be 9-10k.
We had around 90 people.

Re: how much did you spend altogether on Baptism?

We are having DS's in October at a Firehouse Hall, which we are getting free because my aunt and uncle are members, DJ with cotton candy machine and balloon animals for kids we are getting from my mom, someone owed her a favor, Invites I will be making, favors we are going to do a candy buffet, cake BJ's, centerpieces either balloons (going to get the tank for $20 at BJ's and do it ourselves) or I am going to make the ribbon topiary. I am going to put cameras on the tables, Loved how the pics came back when we did this at our wedding. I really can not see us spending more than $800 total after food and whatever else may come our way for 100 people.

We spent about $2000 on DD's a few years ago, but we had to pay a hall rental and DJ then.

Do you know any firemen? You could probably get a hall for really cheap.

Re: how much did you spend altogether on Baptism?

We just had DS's Christening and shared the costs with my sister and brother because all 3 babies were born around the same time. The total cost was about $1700 for the resturant, $30 for flower centerpieces that I did myself, $124 for cookie favors that my friend made and $450 for the Chruch donation. We had about 50 people and everyone raved about the day. It was simple but nice.
You can keep the costs down you just have to decide what is important to you.

Re: how much did you spend altogether on Baptism?

We are having about 130 people and it will cost us about $6K Chat Icon I wish we could have it at our house, but I can not have that many people in the house at 1 time. But the $6K will be for the hall, DJ, balloon & tattoo artist for 1 hour to entertain the kids, invitations, centerpieces and favors.

About 60 people and I think we probably spent like $1500?? We did the party in our yard, and we rented a tent and catered the food.

Re: how much did you spend altogether on Baptism?

We spent $4K & had about 65 people at a really nice Italian restaurant. That includes wine/beer tab & donation to church. We bought flowers & arranged our own centerpieces.
